HELP! Plaza Resort Bonaire Gets Mixed Reviews

I was in the group with ScubaSam, I agree that the resort definitely is not 5 star accomodations, but I dont expect that. All I ask for is a shower with hot water, air conditioning, and reasonably clean. Our 2 bedroom 2 bath room had no issues and I was happy with the place. There was some spots...

    My venture into Sidemount.

Well after a week of diving in Bonaire with the Nomad I have to say I am very happy with my choice. After my first day of diving, I got to a point where I was able to setup my tank straps quickly and easily. I am so used to having my tanks set up all the time and just clipping them in. I still...

How do you deal with derision?

Well I will be showing up in Bonaire in a few days with a sidemount rig. I am sure I will be getting some strange looks and questions as I am gearing up.

How do you deal with derision?

I am going to start off right away by saying that I am not a DIR diver. I have adopted some of the concepts, as a result of the training I started off with. I am not for or against GUE in general, but when I get people telling me that because of my configuration I am a hazard to them and others...

    Too much fin?

I have Mares Avanti Quattros, and AquaLung Slingshots, and I have tried the Hollis F1's The Quattros are a good overall fin but do give your shins a workout. The slingshots on the #2 setting keep up with the F1's but with a lot less legwork. I think I will be getting the F1's though as they are...

    My venture into Sidemount.

Well since I have not posted in here in a while I figure it is time for an update. I did my second open water dive of the season in sidemount, and it is the first that I am doing with Faber hp120's. I have been in the pool a couple dozen times this winter with the new tanks. I decided that I...

Dive Rite backplate is discolored after salt water dive...

Mine has about 60 dives on it and still has the original sheen. Anywhere I have scratched the paint is another story, but I am not worried about it. I can say that the hole rig looks well used and I can say that I don't really mind that.

    Hydro testing on Long Island

I am not exactly sure who does the testing, but I know where I live on the east end, it is well worth the money for me to drop the tanks off at my shop and let them deliver and pick up the tanks from the hydrotester.

    Favorite fins

I have the Mares Quattros and The Aqua Lung Slingshots. Both move me along very well, but the slingshots give me more thrust with less effort in a single tank setup as well as with sidemounted hp120's.

    Ethanol Killing Outboard Motors

The ethanol also attracts water, be sure to use sta-bil and change fuel/water separators frequently. I have seen instances where a a fuel tank was run down to a 1/4 tank and then things went dowhill from there. Turns out there was that much water in the tank. I have been having issues with my...

Buy a Drysuit or Log more dives?

Buying a drysuit will make you log more dives.........Because you will be more comfortable your dive season will be longer. I only stop diving for the months of......oh wait, I did at least one dive every month last year, including one this January in 34 degree water with a 25 degree outside...

    Wet gloves for dry suit?

I wear the Henderson Insta-dry 3 mil gloves, I find them to be warm enough for me to get 40 minutes in about 40 degree water and I really don't loose any dexterity. I prefer the wet gloves to dry gloves, but I do wear dry gloves early and late in the season.

Anyone know where to get webbing

Most of the shops I know of here on Long Island do sell webbing, even the strictly recreational shops as well. There are still quite a few people who use it for weight belts and then there are those of us who use it for a harness as well.

    Ascent/Descent Techniques

I descend swimming head down along a mooring line, keeping close enough for a visual reference, the quicker I get down, the more reserve gas I have. I ascend head up along a mooring line, keeping close enough for a visual reference and will sometimes hold on for a safety stop.

It takes a special kind of stupid...

When I was in high school, right after the Columbine incident, there were multiple bomb threats and other sorts of threats on a daily basis, it came down to that I just stopped going to school, because I spent more time standing outside while they searched the school. I then moved out of that...
