OK, I booked the flight. Now what?

Relax. I am American living in Manila and dive 2 weekends per month. Lots to do and see. The friendliest people in the world but be alert. My personal favorites are Asia Divers in PG and Portulana in Anilao (though isolated a bit which can be nice for a few days. Portulana is a 2 hour drive...

    Trip Advice January 1-17th

All good choices. You will have fun. Some thoughts: water temp will be 24-25 degrees, coron is the spot for wrecks, consider Dumaghetti and Apo Island, Subic is fun on the wrecks but beware that vis is poor. Travel between all these spots takes lots of time so allow for that as it will cut...

    Puerta Galera / Sabang restaurants

Hemingway's Bistrot is excellent. It is My favorite spot. Good food and beer. I go to PG 3 times per year and just got back. Love the place. I usually stay at el Galleon and use their restaurant for breakfast and lunch but Hemingway is for my dinners. I have enjoyed eating at other places...

30/30 and the temps you dive in (please post)

I use a stretch liner in 25/75+ water temps. It is more than enough for me. Suggest you not wear cotton/wool as it can be dangerous if you get damp.

How Miflex HP ruined my dive.

Mike, I bought my HP hoses (3 of them with one blow-out) from a EU source. Do you think per chance that the USA version may be better?

How Miflex HP ruined my dive.

I had a blowout on the Miflex HI Pressure thin hose. Glad that I had a spare but I have no confidence with this thin hose anymore and will change soon. It had about 100 dives on it over past year. It blew on the hose itself and about 0.5cm from the top of the hose.

    El Galleon/Manila Reservations

El Galleon is very reputable. Don't worry about the wire transfer process as it is customary. I use them 3 times a year and have never had a problem. Asia divers and el Galleon are both well run. Get the penthouse or sky room as comfortable. They have a Corsican chef that is good. Also...

A little help looking for a resort and dive op

As a fellow American be selective if you want some comforts. The word "resort" is an oxymoron. You can good deals in philippines using compared to what you are used to in USA. Remember the saying that you get what you pay for. Shangri- la in Cebu is outstanding for comfort though pricey...

    PADI - Expectations

Welcome the the wonderful underwater world. Good feedback from all above. Not knowing the full situation and not willing to assume anything in this matter, I would suggest that you relax, speak with the instructor or shop owner and get more comfortable with your skills before venturing into...

Diving in the Philippines for the 1st time

Anilao is one of my favorites in Asia. There are varying price points but do know that you get what you pay for...cheap is just that. Here are some spots to consider: - Welcome to Aqua Venture Reef Club! Live out a real diver's dream at Aquaventure Reef Club, Anilao, Batangas -- Luzon's...

    Puerto Galera

All comments above are correct. As for me, i always spemd Chinese New Year at PG. Water is a bit chilly for me (25-26 degrees) but great place for 3-4 days diving.

Advice Needed - Diving Trip to Philippines in December

If you want to avoid the traffic to PG, take th seaplane or helicopter. Make the trip from Manila 40 minutes rather than the 3 hour drive and 1 hour boat ride. You did say budget was not a concern and by western standards not that expensive to avoid missing a day of diving in god's swimming...

    TlS 350 signature fitting issue

Folks, i have a TLS350 and 30/30. They arrived as perfect fit. But i took alot of time to get the fit right and the 30/30 is the cave cut. Even after i took and re-took my measurements, DUI called my LDS to question a few measurements and voila....DUI found a problem before they made the...

    30/30 question

My DUI 30/30 just arrived. Got it thru the Blue Horizon guys in Philadelphia area in a cave cut and with boots and zip seals. Fits like a glove. Can't wait to try it out in Komodo Island in September when waters will be 75 degrees. Will wait a bit as the waters in South East Asia are now a...

Looking to go from Advanced to Instructor

Sheriff, I think that Crowly says it best and he is right based on my 15+ years of diving in most places in the world. I would suggest getting out and diving as much as you can do as a 1st priority. You can learn on each and every dive. As for diving in Asia you can go thru Thailand or...
