Just had our first child, time to sell my gear?

So I'm 45 and just had my first child, beautiful baby girl. With the way the world is right now, I'm not sure when I can go diving again. Maybe everyone will be on rebreathers and people can take anti DCI pills by then, who knows. What to do w my gear? Only dove once in the last year with it. I...

    Samui August

I haven't dove in Thailand in years, even though I live here. But now it looks like my annual dive trips will have to be domestic. I'm hoping that the lack of tourists have had a noticeable impact in the quality of diving? Going to take a long weekend to Samui this weekend, can anyone recommend...

FP - PADI deep diver needed?

Going to Rangiroa and Bora Bora end of May for a couple of weeks. Trying to finally get the wife's rescue cert done before then. While we are at it, would it be helpful to get a PADI deep diver specialty in? I have my DM and Tec50 cert. IMHO, the Deep Diver card is only worthwhile if its...

    French Poly honeymoon help

I'm having harder time than usual planning my annual dive trip. This year will be our honeymoon so want something a little special. I have 2 weeks give or take to go to FP. Original goal was to do a week's liveaboard at Fakarava, then 6 nights or so in Bora Bora. Would like something adventurous...

Perdix AI and SPG on scubapro mk17

I don't want to start another debate on the merits / "it will kill" you on AI. I am just wondering if anyone has experience mounting the transmitter and an SPG on the 2 HP ports of a Scubapro Mk17 DIN 1st stage. Will they both fit or does the transmitter need a short HP dongle? thanks

Hurray for Backplates! (lost lots of fat)

I've lost 48lbs this year and have taken 12 inches off my maximum circumference. Have moved from XL to M in size, and all I had to do is chop off 16 inches from my BP's one piece webbing. Of course, if I gain it back, I'll have to buy some new webbing.

Lost 40lbs, need to change BP from SS to AL?

My dive setup is a SS backplate, 12L AL tank, 3mm full body wetsuit and no added weight. I'm nicely balanced this way and have dove this way for the last 6 years. I like the SS plate because it also gives me nice trim. This year, I finally decided to get healthy again and i've dropped 40lbs...

    PLB's - registering / using overseas

I live in Thailand, 2-3 times a year I'll do a live aboard to a fairly remote location. Now that i dive with my S/O, I've become more worried about being lost at sea and want to buy a PLB. However, I can't find any for sale in Thailand (only marine EPIRBs) so want to pick some up from Amazon...

Petrel capacitor failure and firmware update

My Petrel 1 has recently been unable to store tissue data during battery changes. I sent an email to Shearwater, they said it looks to be a failed super capacitor and a known issue. A firmware update is in the works that will store data elsewhere. I guess as long as it still has full...

Lembeh or Bunaken - with SO/non-photographer

Its time for my mid-year mini scuba trip. In the past, I take a week off once or twice a year for a quick trip to Lembeh for some muck diving and macro photography (its great to live in Bangkok). However, now I have GF who dives. We've gone to Maldives and Raja Ampat last year, and she got to...

When did Halcyon change oral inflator? Where to get old one?

I love my halcyon SMB's. I've tried a few other SMB's, cuz they weren't overpriced H stuff, only to ditch them after a few dives because they just totally blew. I do tropical reef dives, and carry two SMBs. A large 6' one bungled to my plate, and a small 3.3' one pre-rigged on spool in my thigh...

    Boat sinkings

By my count, a month and half into 2014 the following dive boats have sunk in the Andaman sea - Bunmee (Fire) - Aladdin (ran into something) - Blue Star (Fire) I don't recall seeing fire extinguishers or smoke alarms on dive boats.

    DCS hit 4 days later

Well, I never thought I would be in this situation, but here I am breathing pure o2, IV in my hand, and potentially a trip to the chamber tomorrow morning. Did a 10 day live aboard, 34 dives total. Max depth of 30meters, but most dives maxed at 24m. Dives of around an hour each with minimu 2...

    Nauticam EM1 first impressions

Received my Nauticam EM1 today. I'll post some pictures and more details later but first impressions. I'll also need to spend some time customizing the buttons and getting familiar to the new layout. I found my EM5 to be effortless to control, hoping the same here. Pros: It has some DSLR level...

What is up with Silk Air and lost baggage?

Just finishing up a week in Lembeh (awesome diving). I flew down Singapore airlines Bangkok to SG, then Silk Air to Manado, all on business class. My bags didn't arrive with me and a dozen other passengers. Only two ground staff were left to handle the paperwork, I had to wait 48 hours to get my...

Lembeh / Black Sands ... should i bother bringing Wide Angle lens/port?

Subject says it all. Going to Black Sands at Lembeh for Songkran. I'm really into macro photography lately (maybe one of these days i'll take a half decent picture). I would love to keep my travel pack as small as possible and wondering if I would regret not bringing my dome port and wide angle...

If you only had 2 ports for your Nauticam

The situation: I presently have an OMD with Nauticam housing with a 60mm and macro flat port and the 4" dome port for my 9-18mm. I went on a minor shopping splurge, so I now also have the 8mm fisheye, 12mm F2, in addition to the 12-50mm kit lens. I would like to limit my travel bag to 2 ports so...

    Choking underwater

Had my first real incident underwater. Was on a live aboard doing a 4-5 dives a day schedule. Boat had excellent food, but being my 6th live aboard now, I know not to eat too much. Went on a night dive, 3 hours after lunch, and everything was going well. But I started feeling a little...
