I second what Cajun Diva says about Key Largo.Have you considered taking a trip down to the keys? In my opinion, it's the best place in the country to certify children. Shallow reef and easy diving. Lot's of good dive-ops. Rainbow Reef in Key Largo certified my daughter; they're great with...
Been down to dive with Rainbow Reef a few times and can highly recommend. You can do a 3 trip (6 dive) package with them for $210. Includes tanks/weights and an in-water guide. Dive prices here. Some places charge extra for tanks, so check on that when comparing. Best of luck, and have fun.
Thinking about driving down from Atlanta for a couple of days the weekend before Christmas. Where's the best place to check on conditions before coming down? It's a long way to drive not to dive. :)
Do the lemon sharks start to come through this early? Are the goliath grouper still around? What...
I did this last week with Rainbow Reef on a day my daughter wanted to sleep in. If they don't have someone for you to buddy up with, they'll pair you with the guide. Did a double dip on Speigel and the Duane.
Have fun!
Nice Video. Thanks for sharing. I dove Jupiter for the first time yesterday. Hope to get back sometime. Did the 3 tank dive with JDC. Glad I got Nitrox certified last month. :)
I must have seen the same sharks you did. I also noticed one with a hook in it's mouth and one in it's...
Able to dive with Underwater Explorers in Boynton Saturday before the rains came. Great viz and calm waters. Even had the sun out for most of the 2nd dive. Did sites 007 and Black Condo. According to Dive master on the boat this was the best day they've had this summer re: viz. We just beat...
Thanks Dave. I usually dive in Key Largo, but wanted to try up near Palm Beach this trip. Would gladly drive there if it's a better option. Will just have to keep an eye on the weather.
I'll be down on business this week and was hoping to dive this weekend before flying out on Monday. IF the storm hits the east coast strong enough to cancel the diving, is there anywhere on the west coast of Florida within a 2-3 hour drive that might be worth trying. In all likelihood, if the...
I've taken week long trips to Grand Cayman (twice) and Cozumel (twice). Cozumel is cheaper, but don't completely write off Grand Cayman if Shore diving is a viable option. Lodging and food is much more expensive, but there are so many places you can do really good shore dives and if you are OK...
I was just looking in the Sticky: Florida Keys Guide and saw Ocean Pointe Suites. Thanks for the recommendation. Anyone have any experience with Ed & Ellen's Lodgings, (also mentioned in the Sticky)?

A friend will be joining my son and I on a dive trip to Key Largo in June. I usually stay at the Key West Inn, but those have a double bed and a sleeper sofa. Can anyone recommend a good place to stay that would have a bed for each of us? At this point, my alternatives are renting 2 rooms or...
That's exactly the same thing I said right after the dive. I would have enjoyed the dive more without the camera, but I hate not to take pictures when I know I may never see them like this again. Definitely leaving the strobe behind though.
Saw them yesterday (2/22) at Cantarel. I have one photo with 10 of them and I 'm sure there were at least twice as many. They circled around a few times out over the drop-off, getting within about 20-25 feet of the wall.
Also had a close encounter with one drifting from Yucab to Tormentos on...

Just spent 5 days in Grand Cayman with my daughter and had a great time. We stayed at Sunset House, but rented a car to try a few other places for shore diving. The Sunset House reef is a good dive and I would have thought it was great, but by venturing out to other parts of the island I...
Wish you had too, Jeremy! Great trip. Red Sail Sports is top notch. I was lobbying for the Kittiwake that day, but my daughter wanted to see the StingRays. Listen to your daughters.
Just about the last place I expected to see a Hammerhead shark, although I do hear they feed on stingrays. Wasn't sure if it truly was a hammerhead until I got back on board the boat and others had seen it too. Was afraid I didn't get a photo that would confirm it, but I think it's pretty...
