DCS recovery and next steps advice

My neurologist (as well as the veritable library of hyperbaric text books and literature I have collected over 30 years of practice) indicate that the chance for significant improvements of neurological deficits after DCS are pretty low after 12 months. Also, my spine and head MRI studies have...

Unknown Woody From “Dive Talk” DCS and Medical Journey

I got an "undeserved" type II DCS hit early last year in the Bahamas. I was near Nassau, so transport to the Hospital was fairly quick. The hospital would not accept my credit card (reason unknown, good credit history and allowable balance). At first it seemed like I was going to have my...

    Nekton boats after hurricane Michael

I think the Nekton did quite well for many years after losing the dive deck early in her history. The safety chains were not engaged and during a deep water crossing when relocating between Belize and Florida, things got nautical. the lift cables wore and broke. I really feel this had...

    Nekton boats after hurricane Michael

They were very stable dive platforms because they had "SWATH" (Small Waterplane-area Twin Hull) design. They were run out of Florida (and Belize, Cayman, St. Croix). They had dive deck that lowered to the water level. The first one, the Nekton Pilot was a very good boat, and a good vacation...

    Nekton boats after hurricane Michael

Yes, it is a shame. I did over 40 trips with them, so I spent a chunk of my life on those boats. Lots of memories made. Unfortunately, the company went from really good to really bad.

    Nekton boats after hurricane Michael

The above posts about the boats being in La. and Alabama are incorrect. They were moored immediately after retirement at the now defunct Gulf County Shipbuilding shipyard in White City Florida, and have never been moved.. This is about 9 miles from Mexico Beach (as the crow flies). I last...

    Nekton boats after hurricane Michael

The old Nekton hulks were moored less then 10 miles from the most intense damage from hurricane Michael. I was wondering if the storm destroyed them. They were already in terrible shape.

Will Smattrak be updated to work with Widows 10?

Keith, you are missing the point. Smarttrack is great and was very happy with it BUT it does not function well with Windows 10.

Scubapro abandoning its customers! Fix Smarttrak!!!

They need to provide a way to easily import the Smarttrak dive log in to their newer software. I have over 2500 dive profiles recorded on the Smarttrak software, and want to be able to continue to actively use this information.

Scubapro abandoning its customers! Fix Smarttrak!!!

Scubapro markets their computers as downloadable to their proprietary log book programs so they literally are in the software business.

Scubapro abandoning its customers! Fix Smarttrak!!!

If Scubapro continues to ignore the compatibility issues between Smattrak and current versions of Windows, they should provide an efficient solution for converting a logbook with thousands of dives to a reliable dive log platform! They have been ignoring this issue for over a year, and it will...

Smarttrak fail to open after Win10 upgrade to ver. 1607

Is Scubapro simply going to ignore its customers that have Smattak dive logs?

I would not say acceptable, but sometimes unavoidable.

Death in Cocos from shark attack

It is unusual that you saw a Tiger Shark accompanied "twice with her two new babies". Tiger Shark pups avoid all large predators (including their mother) immediately after birth. Tiger Sharks have no maternal instincts, and will eat their pups if given a chance. New born pups are 20 to 30...

HSE vs IDSA? What to do?

Kevin, first of all, you sound very enthusiastic and goal directed! The area of your interests and potential field of study are very broad, so it is hard to specify what type of training will serve you best in the future. Realize that when you are talking about "Scientific Diving", Scientific...

Death in Cocos from shark attack

I have noticed anytime a fatality occurs during a recreational pursuit, there are usually a few participants in that activity that are intent on saying "something" MUST have been done wrong or improperly, so that they may erroneously go on believing that they are at no risk of death themselves...
