What's your favorite swimwear for diving?

I always recommend racing or the T back front zip styles for models wearing wetsuits. As we change in parking lots in touristy areas, I don't want wardrobe malfunctions where there's lots of cameras! Cheap racing suits can be had at thrift stores. ($5 average) Most that I see are in new or...

    Renold's Pier Wrecks

Here's video of a recon dive at Renold's Pier at Jacksonport, WI. I was snorkeling for this one. Depth can go to 15' further out. The centerboard trunk at the beginning can be seen from shore. I did report the seeing the fresh dead lake sturgeon at the end to the DNR. Wish I shot video the...

    Large conch shells?

Also make sure they're in checked baggage if flying. Not carry on! Mom lost a beauty that way!

Have you ever "found" a wreck

I have relocated the Success and the D.A. Van Valkenburg in Door County, WI. The Van Valkenburg by diving and wondering about the things I found, and the Success by aerial photography on an internet map site. The one would make a great demotivational poster. The Success If you succeed...

    solo diving sites?

Myself, I generally check the site on snorkel to look for problems before going out solo. If I have a hard time on snorkel, think what I'll have with my gear and a 30 pound video housing. Depthwise, I always look to be able to easily do an out-of-air emergency ascent.

    How long should I wait?

The mucus has now turned from yellow to white, and is much thinner and comming up easier. I'm also not feeling or hearing the bubbling sensations that I had. I figure I'll be coughing for 2-3 weeks yet, so it'll be at least that long before I get in the water again. I've found that the more...

    How long should I wait?

I'm just getting over a lung infection where I was coughing up small amounts of blood mixed with phlem. I did see a doctor and was prescribed antibiotics. The doctor said it was bronchitus and not pneumonia. I'd like to at least start freediving once the coughing is over, but I don't know how...

Scuba Tank Explosion - Myth or Reality?

I have also found that keeping the cylinders on the bottom of the trunk with dive gear on top keeps them quite cool. My wetsuit might be toasty warm, but my cylinders aren't!

Scuba Tank Explosion - Myth or Reality?

Here's what will happen if one catastrophically fails. I had one of these back in the 80's. About the Scuba Tank that Exploded

burning the film on your mask

I've always used tartar control toothpaste. Use the paste and not the gel stuff. With the mask dry add paste and scrub for a good 10 minutes. Add a couple drops of water if things start drying out while scrubbing. Fingers should squeek all over the glass. Rinse well. Minty fresh mask...

Have you had to call off a dive?

My latest was just snorkeling. Wanted to shoot video at Cave Point, too rough and pea soup from the green slime. Tried Renold's pier, 3' viz. Tried Horseshoe Bay, crystal water but 3-5' waves. Bullhead Point, crystal clear and instant ice cream headache even with hood. Went 50 miles south...

College Dorm - Drying Gear Fast

If you have a Shop Vac with removable motor and hose, you could build a dryer for your suit/boots/gloves. Here's one I built. Gets the insides dry in about 15-20 minutes. Is pretty noisy though.

MK10/G250 What is the overall opinion?

I have a 1987 and 1990 model G250/Mk 10. Still diving! The older runs the SPEC cap without the boot. Never had any problems under ice with it. Like the older one better.

    Custom Made Wetsuits?

That sounds like a chemical contamination of some sort.

    Who's Wetsuit is This?

Ain't it fun when everyone's suit looks the same! Next time get a custom suit in custom colors. Then nobody will mistake your suit. On the patches, you could try colored Iron Mend if you can still find it.

    Boaters Inattention

My latest jetski problem got solved by the Coast Guard! I was running with an innertube and 36" mast with a 15x18 flag in Sturgeon Bay. The Coast Guard saw it and stood watch, and busted 2 jetskiers making runs past the flag. There are a few local police water patrols that will do the...

    snorkeling questions.

I would suggest a wetsuit besides the mask, snorkel, and fins. A wetsuit will add some buoyancy, keep you warm, and isolate you somewhat from the water. Thickness will depend on water temps, but a good start would be a 3mm jumpsuit. If you're looking to do scuba later, the 3mm suit will be...

    Deepest you've ever been?

Freediving 40' and the beginings of SWB. I didn't have any feeling for need of air on that dive. Had ascent lasted a second longer, I would have probably gone out. Scuba 100' and don't care to go deeper.

    Need to purchase snorkel gear

For beginners, I'd recommend a dry type snorkel, as most aren't very familiar to the clearing techniques. However, dry snorkels do become wet at 10-15', and you will need to learn to clear it. Also, make sure you get a valve that can stick a finger into to close off. In many dry snorkels...

    Parkway Wetsuit Construction Video

I did see it somewhere on the web, but I can't remember where. SDM also had an article I believe. (have to check my old issues) I picked up two older Parkway suits (early-mid 80's) in the local thrift stores this year still in excellent condition. One was my former instructors! They were...
