We stay at the condos next to Ramone's, The Palms - The Belize Palms - Suites & Hotel - San Pedro, Belize. For the price of 2 rooms or less, you get a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo, all on the beach except for the Casita by the pool. We stayed at Ramone's the 1st time we went to Ambergris Caye, saw...
Stayed there approx. 3 years ago. Only 4-6 diver/boat. Smaller boat. No shore diving. I believe they can do night dives if there are enough divers. Good place.
We Texans are glad you quarantined in your hotel room while you were here. We don't need you exposing us to some dreaded Appalachian disease. Thanks from all of us
A good warm & fuzzy movie with Chinchorro as a backdrop is Alamar (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1502396/). Good videography and story, Spanish but English subs.
I've done both, from Xcalak and from Mahahual. Shortest distance from mainland to Chinchorro is Mahahual. Depending on the sea conditions, it's 1 1/2 hr. from Mahahual, took us 2 /1/2 hr. from Xcalak but seas were angrier leaving from XTC. Heiko Goetze is the owner of Amigos del Mar in...
We started going to Caye Caulker instead of San Pedro just because of the crowds and traffic on San Pedro. Caye Caulker is what San Pedro used to be, eccentric and laid back.
Ramones and Amigos del Mar do both trips. Turneffe is great, so are the dives after Blue Hole dive, Half Moon Caye. I'd pass on Blue Hole itself, 10-15" of rock wall, nondescript. The trip to BH is long, ~2.5', one way, Turneffe, ~1 hr.
I've had several Jeeps, all manual shift. The best one was a 78 Renegade with a V8. Sold my Wrangler last year, was getting hard to get in/out in my senior years. I bought a Kawasaki Mule and never regretted it.
We stayed at Ramon's once and did our diving there. Discovered the condos next door (The Belize Palms - Suites & Hotel - San Pedro, Belize). For less than the price of 2 rooms at Ramon's you can get a 2 bdrm., 2 bath condo on the beach (same beach as Ramon's). We stay here & dive with Ramon's.
I met a group of mixed gas divers at XTC diving, https://www.gotecxcalak.com/, in Xcalak that were diving offshore cenotes back 3-4 years ago. They had a large, ugly boat that barely made it inside the cut at Xcalak. They were off-gasing with Dos Equis at XTC's bar/cafe. Quite a group!
