Dive Advice for January bet Cairns and Brisbane?

As you know, I LOVED our trip on the Spirit of Freedom, I think they have 3 day options. The diving was exceptional, the crew fantastic, food was excellent and lodgings were very good as well. What more can you ask for? And you are in the right area as well geographically.

    Bad dive today, need answers

As I know this diver rather well, I doubt strongly that it was an anxiety attack. And he would know if that was the case. He is also very used to diving in poor conditions with lots of particulate matter in the water. Also used to very cold conditions and let me tell ya this guy is seldom...

The swap between dry and wet suit.. how do you do it?

I simply run mine through the clamps on my BC tank straps and it stays there without a problem as I have to put it in before fully closing the clamps. My BC straps clamp shut without velcro but you can often just run it under velcro of you have a secure enough connection there. If I am not...

Help for a big girl! I'm getting discouraged.

The Henderson Hyperstretch was a life saver for me. It has an unbelievable amount of stretch to it. I wear the size 14 and I am no way a size 14 (I wish!). Only thing is, it does not keep you quite as warm but it WILL fit you!

I even PM'd the original poster and have not gotten any response. Seems like a hit and run poster.

    traveling with regulator

For me it is not so much of how safe it is in my checked luggage, I am not so worried about them damaging it but I am worried about them losing the suitcase that it is packed in. If I arrive and my dive gear does not, at least I have my reg, computer and mask. I don't mind renting the other...

    traveling with regulator

I always carry on my laptop, reg/computer and my mask. I check the rest. I put my carry on's in a small bag that fits under the seat or in the overhead and they all fit in there just fine. Used to be every time I went through check in with my reg in my carry on I ended up with everything...

Does anyone know a divemaster Scott?

Ack and I miss read the one post about your dad's c card, thought you were talking about your dad diving with that and not you. You do not want to be diving on your dad's card for sure.

Ya I think we must have been typing at the same time but my post was longer so it took longer to type and post! :D

Does anyone know a divemaster Scott?

Kind of surprised no one mentioned this one yet ;-) But if Scott is a Divemaster, he cannot teach you to dive. He is not an instructor. I am assuming that you meant that Scott is an instructor? If you took the classes through an LDS then you should contact them to get everything finalized...

IMPORTANT! Do you dive with a DAN Tag attached?

Yup, I have mine on my BC, it stays there all the time. Had to order a new one a couple of times due to changes in phone numbers or doctors but I always have one. It's cheap and easy, why not have it? It surely could be of assistance and it surely can't hurt. I think it is good that they...

Bonaire, Is it worth the trip?

Best place I have been yet! I LOVE Bonaire, going back ion April. If you are going to dive, see lots of life, great coral reefs, lots of color, lots of little stuff to poke around and see than Bonaire is the place. If you are going for night life forget it, not the place for that and not the...

    Great Barrier Reef liveaboard recommendations

Our group went out on the Spirit of Freedom. They were great and I highly recommend them. The crew was terrific, the diving was awesome and the food was incredible. What more could you ask for?

What Do You Brag About Most?

For me it was being able to do the math for my DM class. We did not have calculus as part of any curriculum I saw when I was in school. And math is NOT my friend. I studied my butt off to learn what I needed to pass my DM test. That and the DM swims! Took months of swimming lessons to pass...

    Keep that Mask from Fogging!

And when you think it is clean, do it again, and again. I always clean a new mask at least 5-6 times and it still usually needs a few more in the corners before it is really clean and stops fogging. When a mask has been sitting unused for afew months I usually need to toothpaste it yet again...

How do you wear your weight?

I wear a combo of both, in a wet suit I use an 8-10 lb weight belt and the rest goes in my BC with some in the trim pockets and the rest in the weight pockets. Dry suit I use a heavier belt, rest in the BC. This trims me out better than other options that I have tried. Wearing just a weight...

Can I Do It? Can You Teach An Old Dog New Tricks?

Hey if I could do it you can for sure! I also waited until a bit late in life to start diving, think I was about 55 at the time. Honestly as I was overweight I was terrified of taking the class even though I had thought about doing it for years. I was not in the best shape (still am not ;-)...

    Hello from Rome, NY

Welcome to the Board JustJeff. I also dive in upstate NY but mostly in Lake George. Not been to Great Sacandaga Lake but sounds interesteing, gotta figure out where it is, may be worth a trip ;) I was happy to find Delta Divers this year as they are the only place in the area that can service...

advantages of getting a DM - is it worth it and why

I tend to agree, if you are not going to work in the industry at all then there is not need to take the DM course. However, that being said I learned a LOT in my DM class. As with all other classes it all depends on the instructor. We repeated every skill until we were very proficient and...
