Suunto Dive Manager and Windows 7

My Vyper Air USB connection only works if the end connected to the computer is round the right way, with the big bit facing in to the computer, not sure if this applies to the Stinger as well. (why didnt they make the connection handed!)

What watch do real divers wear?

Rolex Seadweller, 24/7, it's made for it!

Aqualung Mikron 2nd stage with Apeks Flight?

Thanks Herman, that's what my dive shop confirmed, I'm just waiting for delivery........

Aqualung Mikron 2nd stage with Apeks Flight?

Does anyone have experience of mixing Mikron 2nd stages with other 1st stages, specifically the Apeks Flight? The reason/logic is to have a light weight 1st stage with 2 HP ports for a transmitter and an SPG as I'm fed up with my transmitter failing mid dive, and I already have 3 Mikron 2nd...

    Hello from Dubai, UAE

I'm out in Qatar, the shore diving is all but non existant, but the boat diving on the local wrecks is OK. I work 6 days a week, so a couple of dives on Friday is always welcome, and we arent that far away from Oman, the red sea etc. The important thing is to dive!

Aqua Lung Legend or Mikron Vs Apexs 200 or flight vs Mares Carbon Vs Oceanic EOS

I have 2 Mikrons, and 3 friends of mine have tried mine and bought Mikrons as well, they are small, light, and work! What more could you want? (caveat, I think they are a warm water only reg, but that's just fine with me!)
  7. Q

how deep is your normal dive range?

I like the idea of a maximum average, nearly as meaningful as an average maximum!

Which center do you recommend in Sharm & Dahab?

I've used Camle and Emporer, bot good, Camal is probably better, more divers, so more chance of their being enough divers to justify a Thistlegorm trip. (Assuming you're doing day boat diving)

    Is a Backplate/wing worth it?

I just bought a back plate wing, cant understand what the fuss is about, no real difference from my Scuba pro T Sport BCD, except there is nowhere to put anything! For my money the whole back plate wing thing is vastly over rated, a slim, no frills BCD is just fine, save your money!

    Vyper Air and similars

I use a Vyper air, great tool, yes it's conservative, but not that much when compared to my buddie running a Galileo. The Vyper is simple to use, great functionality and has nice big figures you can see easily, recommended.

Me and my GSB and my SMB.

I cheat, 90% of the time I deploy the SMB at the 5m stop, so I have a separate piece of line, 5m long, then you dont have to manage the finger reel with one hand while holding the spare reg set with the other and the DSMB with the third. (The fixed line has a breaking strain of 100 kg, so if...

    20 Questions

Thanks for the feedback, he's just sent through his answers, not at all bad, and at least he got question 1 correct! He's doing his refresher course today, then 4 open water dives. Perhaps I should add that I'm based in Qatar, he's in the UK, hence the use of email for father/son communication...

    20 Questions

Background: My son got his PADI Junior Diver 10 years ago and has not dived since. He wants to dive with me in Sharm in September. He's doing 4 open water dives before then with an instructor, which can technically get him his Advanced Open Water! Terrifying! I thought up 20 questions as a quiz...

    need a good travel reg/setup

I have the same travel requirements, I bought the AquaLung Micron 1st and 2nd stages, with Miflex hoses, great set up.
  15. Q

What do you bring on the dive boat?

I bring water (it's hot out here) for before the dive, beer for after the dive and hopefully a happy attitude. I leave behind the three most useless things on a boat; an umbrella, a spirit level and a naval officer!

    Altitude after dives

as txapacheguy says 'this extremely unlikely situation' when the plane plummets from 30,000ft to 10,000ft, off gasing would be the last thing on my mind, I'd be reciting those words, 'in the event of an accident, place your head between your knees and kiss your ass (arse for us Brits) goodbye...

    Altitude after dives

Intersting that the NOAA website states; 'The cabin pressure in commercial aircraft is maintained at a constant value regardless of the actual altitude of the flight. Though cabin pressure varies somewhat with aircraft type the nominal value is 8,000 feet. For commercial flights, use a final...

    Altitude after dives

I can agree with Hatul on the calculation of the percentage difference, but it still adds up to no more than 20% at a fairly extreme height of 1700m (5,000 ft), most airplane cabins are pressurised to about 800 mb, so the difference is roughly the same, and I agree with TS&M that the rate of...

    Altitude after dives

Maybe I've missed something, but when you surface from a 30m dive you've been at 4 ATM pressure at 30m then off gas at 1 ATM on the surface at sea level. If you then drive, lets say to a height where atmospheric pressure is 800 milli bar (that's 1,700m), or 20% less than atmospheric pressure at...

    suunto vyper advice

One thing to consider is who your diving with, if your buddy is using a sensible algorithm/set up and you've gone over conservative, you'll be calling the dive on the basis of non deco time while your buddy is still happy. Then again, if as you say you're 'quite unfit' it may be more likely that...
