SCUBA Buddies Needed in Missouri / Illinois area

Hope you got some diving in this summer. I'm a bit further northeast (Peoria), but if you're interested in diving Mermet this spring/summer, I'd be happy to meet up sometime.

Shout Out/Thanks--Bubbles Below, Port Allen, Kauai

Just a quick thank you to Linda (and Ben) at Bubbles Below in Kauai. I just got back from diving with them 12/30-1/2. I had a great time and got to see some cool critters. Highlights included a big Java moray, lots of nudibranchs, white-tipped reef sharks, a Commerson's frogfish, a turtle...

    Maui and Kauai

I dove with Lahaina Divers in Maui a few years ago and had a very nice time. Among other dives, they ran across the strait to Molokai and did a hammerhead dive that was very cool; we lucked out and saw mantas and humpbacks close during our surface interval. Molokini wall was very nice as well...

    Diving in Dominican Republic

Bayahibe has nice diving. I've been there twice and dove with Vladi on divingdr.com, and would happily dive with him again. I trained with him for my Advanced several years ago. Really great people, specialize in small groups. They tend to be in demand.... I second the St. George. Top of...

    Visiting downtown Seattle Aug 10-14--recommendations?

Thanks, all. I'm staying at the Inn at Queen Anne near the Space Needle. (Downtown hotels are awfully expensive, and mostly booked). Toying with renting a car. Tentatively planning on having my drysuit and gear with me for singles diving, except tank and weights. Will plan on making it to...

    Visiting downtown Seattle Aug 10-14--recommendations?

Hi, I'm visiting Seattle for a conference next weekend and into the following week. I'd like to get some afternoon/evening diving in (no buddy). Have plenty of drysuit experience, but no time on Puget Sound. Any suggestions? Open to meet-up, charter, or both. Thanks!

    Dorcy Penetrator 220 disassembly?

Hi, Anyone know how led and reflector assembly can be removed? I'm hoping to use the tube for a DIY project, but don't want to ruin my waterproof seal.

Canister light - Where do you mount yours and how?

Bought the same light fairly recently. Also have it waist mounted, and am happy with this mounting. The only thing I don't like with this position is that the backplate scrapes up the housing a bit. Recently zip-tied a bit of split fuel line to the adjacent corner of the backplate, will see...

    car trunk tank organizer

Re: Diver's Direct style two-tank holder. If you have a set of bands for your tanks, and a couple of dollars worth of insulation foam from Lowe's Home Improvement, it's pretty darn easy to tap the pands into the foam with a rubber mallet and mak a two-tank holder.

    PST Tank discussion

In case anyone was still lying awake at night with anxiety, it looks like we're in the clear until 2015 (unless I'm reading this wrong). http://www.phmsa.dot.gov/staticfiles/PHMSA/SPA_App/OfferDocuments/SP9791_2007060054.pdf Hope this is helpful if for some reason your shop gives you trouble.

Dry suit seals at the M&G

Won't be there, but I have used the heat seal tape. The video on the website is pretty explanatory. Biggest issue seemed to be getting ALL surfaces thoroughly cleaned with MEK as described. Used a heat gun (Wal-Mart) to soften. I ended up with a small leak, probably due to inadequate...

Dive caddy - airline carry on solution

I own the Gen 1. Got a chance to check out the Gen 2 at Our World Underwater in Chicago this past weekend. Looks great! So far (knock on wood) I haven't had a problem with the buckles on the Gen 1, and really like the way they function. BUT I have broken buckles like this on other bags in...

Is there a link for product registration? It's on the to do list for the reg repair class, and I can't seem to find a link. Thanks!

    Carbon monoxide poisoning - scary!

In regards to oxygen therapy, it has an effect beyond helping you feel less short of breath. CO binds hemoglobin much more tightly than oxygen, decreasing the amount of oxygen your RBCs can carry. However, oxygen also exists in a dissolved state in the bloodstream. Giving 100% oxygen...

    Carbon monoxide poisoning - scary!

Um, wow. Glad you lived. Next time call 911! With a loss of conciousness, there might be an indication for hyperbaric treatments. Still worth getting checked out by your doctor, as there can be delayed neurologic sequelae--subtle cognitive and memory deficits, etc. People think about...

    Illinois diving

Yeah, I figured that out. Still, another relatively local dive site is a very welcome thing, as is the prospect of sturgeon.

    Illinois diving

Thanks for the info on Bredina Springs. Not a lot closer, but another dive site to check out. Hey, I just checked the temp/visibility on their website, and its 80 degrees at the surface! Bayahibe, DR was only 78! I'm so there! :)
