In order to be a "Certified Assistant" in a PADI class... you have to be a PADI Active Status Divemaster. Not sure about the other agencies' requirements.

I never announce my level of certification and only provide my "Deep" Specialty and Nitrox cards for recreational diving. If nobody knows you are a dive professional, nobody is likely to sue you.

@Bubbletrubble: The AOW curriculum did not change, but the quality of instructors varies greatly. If you wish to teach gas management, then teach it. If your LDS won't let you teach it, then quit. Not to sound trite, but its up to you to exceed the minimum standards of the agencies.
