    Sign language for divers

Sign language taught and used in OW courses would certainly be advantageous. More detailed communication underwater right from the initial stages of recreational dive training would increase safety and diver awareness. However, like radio comm, communication underwater must be kept brief, to...

    PADI lacking Solo Diver course

I'm somewhat curious as to why PADI has never offered a certified Solo diving course. I understand PADI is a strong supporter and believer in the Buddy system, but wouldn't a Solo diver course teach and encourage better diving skills in the way of self sufficiency, self mastery, and self...

    Swimming Abilities?

I think a major part of it has to deal with what frame of mind does the person enter when they hit the water. Obviously swimming skills play a key role, the more you swim the more comfortable and confident a person feels in the water and will definitely be an asset to anyone doing their OW...

Aeris Atmos compatibility with Mac Books

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if the Aeris Atmos ai Dive Computer is compatible with a Mac Book? the specs call for Windows, but no mention of Mac. Maybe if I installed the Windows operating system on my Mac, perhaps that might work. Any thoughts?

Dry spell? What are you doing to keep your passion for diving when you can't dive?

I'd like to know where you get your books. I try to read as much as I can (often feels like not enough though). Sounds like a decent treasure trove of knowledge, do you find them at book exchanges or antique malls? I'm thinking of hitting up Vancouver island in may. First dive trip out to the...

    Views on ice diving?

Ice diving would be great!! I enjoy diving in glacial lakes in Jasper, even in a 7mm wetsuit. those lakes tend to hover just above freezing temperatures especially in the spring and fall seasons. as long as you keep moving and really focus on your breathing, you will stay nice and toasty. I...

Water Temp in January on GBR?

27c is insane!! that sounds so amazingly warm! The lakes around here have been frozen since october. Even in the summer, the only decent lakes around here are glacier lakes in the mountains. 5c to 10c are average with 1c to 4c in the fall season.

Where is that island? A map of Australia and the Pacific Islands.

I will definitely make my way down under one day. I love cold water diving, around 1-10 degrees Celsius, it can be done with a 7mm wetsuit. However the thought of warm tropical waters that i could stay in for hours on end would be most awesome!!

    Dive Computer with GPS

well I can see some practical applications to having GPS underwater. But it seems to me it would be more of a distraction and something else to go wrong. I don't think it would be something I would invest in, but will keep a tab on this info. Any good links?

    Reef-Rider vs 5 Oceans

I have a 5 Oceans BC and I love it. Haven't tried the Reef rider so I can't really give you a solid comparison, However from the images I have seen, I don't think I like the weight pouch with the zipper. I'm a fan of weights that can be easily dumped in an emergency. This is just from a glance...

A day on the reef in Belize

What kind of laws and regulations are there for spearfishing in Belize? It sounds like alot of fun, but I would be worried about a nice bull or tiger shark coming to take a closer look at my catch lol.

    Oxygen Toxicity

I'm sure this question has been asked several times, although I could not find a thread for it so I'll just go ahead and ask. Why does oxygen become toxic when the percentage reaches and exceeds its depth? I understand that different gas mixtures have to be set to certain depths, and that...

    Great White Shark Study

I've heard of the" White Shark Cafe' " and I find it interesting how white sharks, and most other migratory marine species for that matter, travel great distances on such precise routes year after year. i'm not a marine biologist or researcher or any kind, but I would venture a guess that they...
