    Discovery/Resort Dive in the Keys

My partner and I are heading to the Keys for Thanksgiving week and I'm looking for a good dive op for a discovery dive for him. I did one some years ago with the one in Pennekamp State Park and had a great experience and went on to get certified. Now I'd like him to have a great experience as...

    Any divers near Orlando?

Try the Lake Mary Scuba Club. It's a good group and they set up a lot of local dives. The Lake Mary Scuba Club (Lake Mary, FL) - Meetup.com

    Scuba stuff in thrift stores.

I found a Sherwood regulator in excellent shape at the local Goodwill for $7. It's going to be serviced and put to use.

    Scubapro Mk10/Adjustable 109

Thanks for the info and the reference. I think I've got a reg that will do for me for a long time. DA Aquamaster, it may be a few months but I expect you'll this one come across your workbench.

    mouth organ type noise

My R190 vibrates on the surface and not in the water and it was recently serviced. I don't see it as a problem.

    Scubapro Mk10/Adjustable 109

The shop in DC? That's the only one I've seen in the area that handles Scubapro. Thanks for the info!

    Scubapro Mk10/Adjustable 109

I picked up this regulator at yard sale and I'm looking for a little info. From talking to the seller, I gathered that it hasn't been used in 13 years. The Mk10 is in great shape, not a mark on it, and from the posts I've seen is a good reg. The primary second stage is an Adjustable 109 from...

    Mares puck vs nemo sport?

I've seen a description that says the Nemo sport has user replaceable batteries but other descriptions don't specify. I'm looking for wrist computer and would prefer one that can be used as a watch as well. The Nemo sport can be found for almost $200 cheaper than the Oceanic Geo. Is there any...

How to get over this fear!

Have you practiced a horizontal descent in your SCUBA gear yet? Going a little head down in that might help you get used to it. You might have to just brace yourself to do it and try in spite of the fear. Don't think about it too much ahead of time, you'll just work yourself up even more.

How to get over this fear!

Breathing with the snorkel isn't very different than with a regulator. You just have to remember to hold your breath (after getting used to NOT holding it) when you go under. You don't have to stay down long and clearing the snorkel is just like clearing a reg, a sharp exhale (which you'll need...

    HELP! Masks always leak!

I wish I could find the link to the blog where I found this advice but it worked for me. The problem with holding a mask to your face and sniffing is that many people unconsciously press too hard. The mask sticks in the test but still leaks in the water. Hold the mask to your face or lay on...

    What to wear...under there

I wore regular trunks for my quarry dives. They bunched. I'm getting square legged suit (think long speedo but shorter than jammers) for next time. I don't really care what others think when the wet suit comes off. Modesty is served as well as it needs to be.

    Padi Module 3!

I used the left hand cupped over the mouthpiece to make a funnel then "sipped" from the air stream. That kept the air further from my mask. It was still a little wet but not too bad.

newby question about a boat dive

I've only been on boats in the Keys, but they always make sure everyone has a buddy. If necessary, they'll make a threesome.

Best place to reef dive in the keys ?

It's hard to go wrong at pretty much any reef off of Key Largo. They're each spectacular in some way. I agree the Benwood is an excellent dive. It's been down long enough it's almost like a natural reef with tons of life and it's a little deeper than the inner reefs, but not too deep for novices.

Why did you become a diver?

Many in my imagination. :dork2: I agree it's like an alien world.

There's one in the PADI OW manual page 49.

    Assessments

Yes, 4 quizzes and a final. It's mostly multiple choice although there's a few fill in the blanks. You also complete knowledge reviews in the book as you read. The closest thing to working problems is working the tables to determine your dive limits and plan dives. Like I said above, it's not...

    Assessments

There are written knowledge reviews and tests on the information in the book and lecture. If you get an answer wrong, the instructor should make sure you know the correct answer before moving on. It's hard to fail but your life can depend on understanding this information so they try to make...

    Equipment

The whole thing is called the regulator. There are several parts. The part that attaches to the tank and has all the hoses coming out of it is the 1st stage. It reduces the pressure of the air coming out of the tank and delivers it to the different parts. On the right side, you usually have 2...
