Trip Report Iron Bottom Sound (Solomon Islands -- Feb 2024)

I recently returned from a two week trip to the Solomon Islands to dive the wrecks of Iron Bottom Sound. It was a tech dive trip put together by Dirty Dozen Expeditions and there were about 13 rebreather divers on the trip. I've written a detailed trip report covering logistics (flights...

    Revo: offboard diluent?

Personally, I generally use a dedicated 6cf tank for my drysuit. I know others who "split" their wing hose so they can inflate both their drysuit and their wing from the Dil tank with Air. I just spent 10 days diving in the Solomons and used the method of Air in the onboard diluent tank and...

New Wreck : "Squeezer" Dredge Barge off Pt Mugu, California

@California Diver has once again used his bathymetry detective skills to locate a previously unknown wreck about 250 feet deep of Pt Mugu. We have been doing a bunch of detective work up there on the Triton with Danny Graham and dove this wreck on Friday in a very short weather window. Based...

Photogrammetry Model of the HMCS Yukon (DDE 263)

In case people hadn't see it posted elsewhere, I finally completed my photogrammetry model of the Yukon. It was a very challenging wreck to build a model of. I posted about the entire journey along with screenshots and links to the on-line 3D models that people can investigate. There are two...

Bailout Rebreather Mode on Petrel 3

According to the release notes, it was added with Version 84 of the firmware on 26 July 2021 and applies to "External PPO2 monitors only." So, it seems like it should be available eon the Petrel2 as long as it is running firmware version 84 or greater. It is even included in the Petrel 2...

    To Nerd (or not)

I've had mine for 6+ years and really like it. The charging can definitely be finicky. I often do exploratory dives in limited visibility and the compass is very useful for me and I like having my SurfGF, deco info, etc. in my line of sight. Overall, I prefer having it when I dive. - brett

Looking for dive buddy: San Diego

Think of it more as a way to meet other people who are local and like to dive. It doesn't mean the whole group goes diving together all at the same time. - brett

New airplane wreck (Hellcat?) off Pt Mugu, California (180 fsw)

In this case, on this boat, we don't have sidescan. We initially identify possible dive targets based on public bathymetry data and then we go look at each of the targets and use a "traditional" sonar to look at the relief, fish concentrations, etc. to determine if it deserves a dive or not...

New airplane wreck (Hellcat?) off Pt Mugu, California (180 fsw)

I've been trying to go out diving with Danny Graham at Triton Diving for quite some time. We are both wreck diving fanatics and he has an amazing boat for technical diving. We finally made that happen on Jan 9th during a short weather window. @California Diver had done some bathymetric research...

    2023 "Top 10 Dives & Projects"

I went to Presque Isle in 2021 but I definitely need to get back to do more. https://wreckedinmyrevo.com/tag/presque-isle/ I'm currently targeting to be there in 2026 to dive some of the deeper wrecks but it is early in the planning stages. If there is availability sooner for a tech charter...

    Revo: offboard diluent?

Yep, I was using the "Air 3L on-board Dil for wing and deep bailout into the MAV" trick last time I was in Truk. - brett

    Revo: offboard diluent?

Most people I know will just disable the ADV and put Air in their on-board Dil tank for the wing inflate and then run their Trimix off board lean bailout into the off board port on the MAV. I've done this a few times in the past as well. You don't need to reconfigure anything on the unit and...

    2023 "Top 10 Dives & Projects"

It was an epic year with trips to very remote places (Antarctica & Bikini Atoll), very deep places (HMHS Britannic), very restricted places (USS Moray submarine), and we managed find some new wrecks here in Southern California and film an episode of Expedition Unknown (airs 3 Jan 2024). I...

[rEvo] Petrel 2 controller intermittently shows 0.0/low PPO2 for all sensors

I don't even remember where I got mine. Maybe from Richard Morton. I found the attached Shearwater PDF of how to maintain the cables and it includes diagrams of that strain relief (along with the "old style" rEvo one I used to use). It seems like it is actually a Holils part (PN 26097)...

[rEvo] Petrel 2 controller intermittently shows 0.0/low PPO2 for all sensors

See photo. This is the "new" style. There was an older version that didn't screw together but this version is much better. Regards, - brett
