Humpback whales increasing in New York City waters.+

I've seen < 3'-5' and I've seen it as good as 10'-12'. I've only seen that upper end a couple of times though, unfortunately. [emoji6]

Humpback whales increasing in New York City waters.+

I live 180' from the beach in Rockaway and the increase in all sea life around here has increased, insanely, over the past 5 years or so. Whales, dolphins, white sharks, seals.

Best way to organize week of diving/land activities Riviera Maya/Cozumel

We stayed in PDC and I dove with Tank Ha. They had at the time a package that included a 2 tank dive locally, a trip on their boat (which saved at least 2-3 hours over the ferry) to Cozumel for a two tank dive, and a two tank cenote dive at Chac Mol. Good operation and since I was the only...

Beach 8th St this Saturday 6/14/14

Slack water is usually shortly after high tide, but not by much. Parking can be a problem. There is only street parking and the cops from year to year change their "policy" about letting the divers double park in the circle. I would be there by 8 if I were you and you should be ok for parking...

Beach 8th St this Saturday 6/14/14

I live very close by and try to dive there several times every summer. A number of classes will probably be doing their open water dives there on Sat. There are cages at about 15' that the classes use. It will be pretty low biz particularly near the classes. There are two rock groins where I...

    Holding Breath When Diving

This is almost verbatim, what I was taught in my first scuba course. NAUI circa 1975 as a Phys. Ed. class at Pitt.

Another set of questions about Cancun / Playa del Carmen / Cozumel

One dive op that does not use the ferry for Cozumel dives is Tank Ha. They I use their own boat tags leaves from Playa del Carmen and it saves about 2-3 hours on a two dice trip. I dove with them a couple of years ago and would recommend.

18% Gray Card for White Balance

No apologies needed. You may be right and I may be wrong. It HAS happened before. If you don't believe me, ask my wife. :-) To the OP, if you use a grey card to white balance it will cause you to overexpose because the camera will see the grey as white and attempt to compensate for the...

18% Gray Card for White Balance

18% grey card is for used to establish neutral color after exposure, not for white balance. It is used assuming a normal exposure and if you color correct the grey card shot to match the actual grey card, all shots after that which are shot under the same lighting/exposure will be color correct.

    Cenotes temp around Playa

Dove Chac Mol in early Feb and the temps were mid 70's. I was quite comfortable in a 3/2 with no hood or gloves. YMMV depending on your tolerance to temps.

Uh-oh!! Does this mean that I am I trouble? I took of the front of my new HOG 2nd this weekend when I realized that it was shipped to me with the hose on the left, rather than the right. I then proceeded to disassemble it and install the right hand components (which were supplied with the...

    Playa Del Carmen/Playacar advice please

I dove with Tank Ha when I was there last year. I did 3 days of 2 tank dives. One day was in the Playa del Carmen area and the dives were ok. The second day was drift dives in Cozumel. The advantage with Tank Ha for Cozumel dives, is that you take one of their boats from playa to Cozumel and...

AI's close to Playa Del Carmen

Spent this week last year at The Royal PDC. Highly recommended. Convenient to 5th Ave, great service and beach. I dove with Tank Ha 3 days during the week and walked to the shop in about 10 minutes.

2 Dives in Playa del Carmen, 2 Dives in Cozumel help!

+1 for Tank Ha. I was in Playa del Carmen in February and did 6 dives with them. They have a package the includes 2 tank local dives in Playa, 2 tank dive in Cozumel and 2 tank dives in a cenote. I did morning dives in all cases and was back at our resort for lunch with my non-diver wife in...
