St. Lucia - Diving on the southeast?

Hi All, My wife and I are off to St. Lucia in three weeks time. We are staying on the southeast part of the island (Coconut Bay Resort) next to Vieux Fort. I know that most of the diving is on the central eastern side of the islands, near Castries? and the Pitons. But I just wanted to know...

    Lead weights?

Yes, it's the very same kind of lead. Lead neurotoxicity concerns are greatest with children (especially those under 6) as their brains are still developing. However, even as an adult you should still use caution. Always thoroughly awash your hands after handling lead weights. The white water...

how to clean a filthy snorkel and or mask

Soak them in a dilution of bleach. I wouldn't be so worried about how they look but just ensure you have removed any biofilm or bacteria

    Lighting Tips with PowerShot

Then you'll definitely have no problems. Mine hold up well at 100 feet in a cold quarry in Pennsylvania during the winter months. Maybe I should just move south!

    Lighting Tips with PowerShot

The slave strobe will make a huge difference. I would recommend purchasing the fibre optic cable and using black tape to seal off any light that may "leak" through as to avoid backscatter. Also, from you photo you posted, it looks like you do some cold water diving. I would also recommend...

    Lighting Tips with PowerShot

I have a similar powershot u/w camera and found I got much better results when I added a slave strobe. If you're looking for an affordable option (under $200) try looking at the intova range of strobes.

    Dive Tracker Scout

Thanks Peter. Unfortunately it has to be the Scout as this is the locator system that the quarry I go diving at uses. The transmitter is required for solo diving. $20 to rent theirs or free if you have your own.

Missed safety stop...told to go back down and complete?

Sounds to me like she had no business diving in such deep water without refreshing her skill set first. Simple common sense!

    Simple safety exercises?

Deployment of dsmb/lift bag? Just be careful. It is easy to get into trouble even in such shallow waters. The best place to practice many of those skills would be in a pool.

    power inflater failure

Sounds like you handled the situation well. Another good reason to carry a lift bag/dsmb and line with you on every dive!

Quick Fix for Latex Drysuit Seals - Ideas?

Thanks for the suggestions. I had previously tried the dry gloves before (northern diver brand) and they worked great until they both sprung a leak at about 100' in a cold Pennsylvania quarry in January. It was a long swim back! I only joke about the duct tape as I once heard of someone using...

Quick Fix for Latex Drysuit Seals - Ideas?

Hello! I’m looking for some ideas as to a quick fix for my latex drysuit seals. The gauntlet-style seals are a few years old now are no longer making tight seal around my wrists (i.e. they spring a small leak when I clench my wrists). I fully intend to have the seals replaced real soon...
