    New to US diving

Hi guys/girls, I'm moving to SF later this month from Australia! and will be bringing my equipment. So I hope to start diving again, it's been almost 2 years since I dived in Singapore. First question where is SF in relation to NorCa or SoCal? Cause I have no idea where Menterey County is...

Replacement Battery for Stinger - Victoria

I've moved to Australia and need to replace the battery in my Stinger, after checking the Suunto website and finding no luck with no service centres listed in Melbourne let alone in Australia. So I'm wondering if anyones had to replace a battery while in Oz? Pointers to where to go will be...

Do you dive with or without your snorkel attached and why?

I remember when I started diving and I bought a snorkle. It didn't get used but I took it with me everytime. But then as a beginner there was a gadget desire that made me carry many unneeded things. One time the snorkle was bumped and fell while on the surface, the snorkle sank and was lost...

What item of equipment was a waste of money?

I thought the idea of the magnadoodle slate was quite cool, but I thought it might be erased too easily and I love having a second page to continue with notes or have deco tables hidden so they don;t get rubbed off. I use a 3page curved slate.

    Hello to ScubaBoard

Great stuff welcome to the board, it's the best place to find the answers to the many many questions that new and older divers have. Enjoy the wonders underwater :-)

    Singapore Divers

We saw a boat (MV Oriental Queen) that was upside down during the weekend, we had seen it the day before at the Kuantan Wreck site. Only now does the story come out. .. MV Oriental Queen (a malaysian registered live-aboard) met an accident last Saturday at about 1.00am. *The boat was ship...

    Singapore Divers

Maybe we had a poor day to dive it, the whole trip was so-so, as it was rather hard to find interesting creatures. Yes we saw turtles, cuttle fish, rays, eels, bat fish etc. .. but they were few and far between. That said maybe because it was the first dive of the year for many of us we were...

    Singapore Divers

Just back from Kuantan Wreck, saw a massive black ray and a few groupers, a lone stone fish and general space filling extras. No penetration. There was some black liquid that looked like oil or petrol seaping from the wreck. And on the top of the ship the metal plates are rather unstable and...

backplate and wing size for diving in the tropics?

I personally use a 27lb wing and ALU BP, and only dive in tropical water. The gear is great works wonderfully. I'm diving in Malaysia, Singapore and Australia so the weather is around 30degrees (1000 farentheight!) so it's nice and warm, we wear only short wetsuits during the day and switch to...

    New Template Skin

I noticed the roll-over state of the top links is rather hard to see when it turns to white on white, might be an idea to choose a different shade of the blue, so there is reaction but not mystery! Just a thought :-)

    New Template Skin

I like the font and small buttons, maybe change the reply button as well but ensure that it is visable different from the q-reply, but I guess this is part of the up grading of all the buttons etc ... nice to see a full set of consistant buttons and icons. Keep up the good work :-)

Slate .. as used at SuperBowl XXXVIII

I have a wrist slate but I find that it at times slides around and moves, and I must remember to put it on last after I have tanks on other wise it gets bumped when trying to get on my BC straps. I just thought that it might be a more streamlined idea. And it got me thinking that maybe I could...

gear i'm looking at buying...what do you think

On other thing to think about and there are many when it comes to buying dive gear. Is to imagine that you are in the water and horizontal. Take a note of what hangs off you, what is going to touch the coral or catch on a wreck. Think about how clear the BC is, does it have a single point of...

gear i'm looking at buying...what do you think

As some others mention it's hard to tell if the gear is correct for the diving that you plan to do. Many will assume that you will be diving like they do and rate it against how it would work for them, others will rate it against there gear and some may have issues with certian companies or...

Slate .. as used at SuperBowl XXXVIII

While watching the superbowl, we noticed that the quarterbacks had the plays written on their forearms on a slate-like device. I was wonder if our American friends had more details about what this might actually be. Is it something that can be bought and used for underwater like a slate? :54:

In this day and age, I think that's what we would like to do, but still waiting for the tech to be in place. I'll keep wishing :-)

    New Zealand Diving

Like you I know very little abt diving there.. well actually nothing... but i would guess that it's quite cold. I've been down south and it was really cold and that was in January, and that was above water. But I'm sure the diving would be fun - have fun.

which is your favorite tech scuba agency?

I found an instructor that understood what I wanted to do and had the experience that I liked. I just happened that he was TDI so that's what I my c-cards say. But GUE is something that i may want to learn more about in the future.
