Diving at Taveunin, Fiji: Any Chance for Strong Currents at Rainbow Reef at Full Moon?

I was at Paradise just before thanksgiving. Cyclone Mal came by for a quick visit. Resort is awesome and the dive shop is fantastic. All of the dives were live drops and almost of those were drift dives. White Wall is great to see. Don't forget about the Purple Wall. It's smaller but quite...

Diving the Great White Wall in Fiji

I just got back from Paradise. Cyclone Mal messed up only one day of diving! Great resort and the dive operation is equally up to the task. We dove the GWW twice and the purple wall once. The dive shop is very flexible on dates for the dive but you have to ask. One day we passed over head and...

    GoPro 11 Settings

No arguments here. I know friends who shoot flat and it looks great in post processing. Just my preference.

    GoPro 11 Settings

I don't switch modes underwater. Too much effort to do it using buttons. You can use the Backscatter custom preset but you already have it set for the best settings. You can use the super heavy duty hyperboost if you wish. You can use other protune settings but I found leaving white balance to...

    GoPro 11 Settings

I agree. I shoot my 11 with 4K at 120fps. When you video the mantas, you are going to want this. You can shoot linear or wide depending on how you want the picture to look. You will want to have your video lights. I found that the Backscatter filter is not needed and can actually hinder the...

Bonaire or Belize Lighthouse Reef area?

With regard to Belize, to me at least, the best option is live-aboard. Turneffe is also an option. But best diving is on Lighthouse Atoll and only way to really enjoy is by live-aboard or if you are very adventurous staying in one of the eco resorts.

Bonaire or Belize Lighthouse Reef area?

Belize is best sampled by live-aboard. Aggressor III or IV run the same itinerary. Diving can be world class with 100+vis. and excellent walls. If you decide to do a shore based resort then go to Ambergris. Bonaire is all about shore diving and there are 100's of write-up's in Scuba Diving...

Best full foot fins for current: Atomic SplitFin or Sea Wing Nova?

I love my Atomic split fins. I wore my first pair out (Step Into Liquid). My 2nd pair (Smoke On The Water) are equally good. An earlier post noted that you have to develop the proper kick to get the most out of them. This is an accurate statement. Unfortunately, I seem to be one of the few on...

Another scuba boat sinking - Galapagos Islands

Nice discussion about the PFD's but anything more on the boat itself? Was it the Aggressor? Anything on cause yet?

Any info on Kona Aggressor? Is our trip about to get cancelled?

CEO Wayne Brown announced today that after extensive topside remodeling on the Kona Aggressor II, the remaining work was to be done in a shipyard to complete any hull repairs before putting the yacht back into service. Last week the yacht traveled to a shipyard in Honolulu which is where it is...

Best GoPro 10 presets if I'm using PolarPro red filter?

Backscatter has a cheat sheet for this. Just go onto their web site and print it out.

Check out the reviews on Backscatter or Blue Water Divers. They are a great resource. I agree with all the other comments on getting some experience under your "weight belt" before going down with a $6,000 to $10,000 rig. Buoyancy, air consumption and overall comfort under water are very under...

    Turks: Aggressor or Explorer Ventures?

By the way, I forgot to mention that wet suits are hung in the middle section right over the very warm compressor. Your wet suits are almost always dry and warm for the next dive!

    Turks: Aggressor or Explorer Ventures?

Good afternoon Janie, I like both of them - a lot! EV has side by side beds and Aggressor has pretty much the same layout as the CA IV (bunk beds). You will be surprised how much more diving you get with the extra days. I also saw the ads for it. If I had my choice, it would be tough to pass it...

    Is Socorro worth the $$$?

OMG, YES, YES, YES. This location is simply amazing. You might see more hammerheads at Cocos but the shear bio-diversity can't be matched. You might get some current at Socorro but certainly not the kind you will experience at Cocos. You get to fly into Los Cabos. This is truly a bucket list...

    Soccoro aggressor canceled

Regardless, it really sucks to be all ready to go, or be in transit, or even be there already and then get cancelled. Tricky times that we live in.

    Soccoro aggressor canceled

There has to be more context to the Aggressor response. The crew get tested every week and the guests all get tested the day they get back to port so they can fly home. The only exception is if the guest is staying in Mexico after returning; but even then the guest has to test before getting...
