    What’s with this?

I have to say that I am sorry I am signed up for a trip at the end of next month. With all of this testing rigamarole, and the impending pilot shortage based on the vax mandate set to take effect thereabouts, I am afraid this will be a cluster of the highest order. I hope I am wrong. The last...

    2021 Bonaire roll call

Air is built into the shop deal and the total cost of the package is nearly the same as me buying air on it's own.

    2021 Bonaire roll call

Finally all booked for a trip to Bonaire the week following US Thanksgiving. We are going with our dive shop and staying at Buddy. Typically, we go for two weeks and stay at Bamboo but air is insane right now. I think this is trip 14 for me. I have been underwater a lot this summer removing...

    Bonaire slowly reopening....

I would love to get there in the next several months but will probably wait until the Fall as I am not sure the whims of the officials will be predictable. In the interim I hope to dive the BHB and other domestic locations.

Dive sites I will always do again, dive site I will not do again.

I never say never other than to Brussels Sprouts. Those are a hard pass. In terms of sites that if I am not excited to do on Bonaire, Hilma Hooker tops the list. Have done it plenty of times but it just doesn't do much for me. That said, if I am with someone new to the island and they have to do...

    Visiting Bonaire via Cruise Ship

I saw someone from Bon Scuba and was impressed as well. I didn’t introduce myself but thought anyone would be in good hands with them.

Last Day - A Few Observations

It has to come from divers who are only several months between trips to various islands vs. large ships who frequent several ports a week and ingest and discharge massive amounts of water all of the time. It's so obvious...

    January 2020 Observations

I had one computer showing 78 degrees and another showing 80 degrees. I would guess 79 degrees is about correct.

    January 2020 Observations

Last night on the island for this trip. Already scheming about a return. Might try to get back in early December during low season and before the holiday craziness. That said, being here over New Years last year was a blast! Literally, fireworks everywhere! A few parting thoughts: The Doner...

    January 2020 Observations

We checked out the new Wannadive location by Windsock. It is on the east side of the road next to a new resort or housing that is being built. It was finished in December and is really nice. Super easy for south end tank swaps.

    January 2020 Observations

Yeah, but it is time to get back home and play with dogs and get back to work so I can afford to come back! I have to say I think I enjoyed this trip as much as any I have done here. We ended it on the right note with the sea horses and a nice experience with a small turtle on our way back to...

    January 2020 Observations

The goldens are really pretty. I have some shots of a free swimming chain moray today. Not are Nat Geo quality but I will throw it up on instagram and link it here. I struggle with posting pics directly to this site.

    January 2020 Observations

Three dives today on our last diving day. The Rock but just the inner reef. Bari reef, strong current. One free swimming chain moray and then our last dive was at Front Porch. I found the sea horses. Very near the rope that goes down the old wreck. One was about 68' on the north side of the rope...

    January 2020 Observations

We started the day today at Bachelor's Beach. Success on the bait ball! We spent about half an hour with it. Crazy! It seems like it is pretty consistent about being there in the morning. When it moved it went north and was around the first pier. I was expecting sardines as the only other bait...

    January 2020 Observations

3 dives today. Bought a new full 2.5mm Waterproof wet suit at Your SCUBA store as I had been freezing in my old 3mm (now 1mm) jacket. Much better! this morning we dove Windsock and saw a couple chain morays. I can't remember ever seeing one here in a couple hundred dives on the island. Then it...

1st Trip to Bonaire in July!

Echoing @Trailboss123 , if you have included boat dives, take them. If you have a truck that too. In July, it will be hot, likely crazy hot, so you will want to dive as much as possible. Bari reef right where you are staying is a GREAT site, particularly towards the ugly portion where the reef...

Trip Report Trip Report: Bonaire- January 2020

Last night we had dinner rolls with roasted garlic butter, Dutch bitter balls, carpacio, soup, steak, and desert. We didn't do the wine as we are not really into wine. A couple of the wines were actually Dutch. You also get your choice of still or sparking water and can order beer or soda.

Trip Report Trip Report: Bonaire- January 2020

CHEFS OMG! We skipped the wine pairing as it would be lost on us. The dishes were excellent and we had a great time with the Dutch/Canadian/lived in America couple next to us. The mix was about 50/50 Dutch and American.
