    Middle/Lower Keys 4/11-4/13

I will be in the area looking to do a double-dip wreck dive on the Vandenberg, Adolphus Busch, Thunderbolt or any other decent wreck in the area. I'm an experienced full cave diver with plenty of saltwater experience before that. I haven't been very active on SB lately, but there are probably...

    I'm mad at Dive-aholic

Let's just hope if we see a GUE/UTD movement into sidemount we can get the benefits and keep the bullsnot out.

Kelly, have you seen Bob Schulte's harness? Not quite leg loops, but close.

    Deciding on a BP/W

Very interesting. I don't do any traveling tech dives, but I can see the benefit and that it works just like a regular backplate is pretty sweet.

    Deciding on a BP/W

Do you have a picture of the CD backplate? I've never heard of such a thing and it sounds pretty cool.

Zeagle's Express Tech: The first and last BC most will ever need (or want)

Interesting... still not a fan of pull dumps though :D No problem Monkee. You can also use weight belt buckles if you find the need to remove them often. It's how a lot of people secure a canister light.

Zeagle's Express Tech: The first and last BC most will ever need (or want)

If they have tabs with grommets to attach to a backplate, I would use that. You'll need two screw bolts or zip ties. If they don't, I'd suggest using plastic weight keepers on either side of each pocket, they are bigger then the metal ones. You can also take a section of innertubing and run it...

Zeagle's Express Tech: The first and last BC most will ever need (or want)

Man, I don't see that at all. The elbow on my Nomad is one of the highest wear points on the rig and knowing the internals of a pull dump it makes me shudder to think of one there. Lamar told me they do not configure the Nomad like the Armadillo (with the inflator on the bottom and a pull dump...

Zeagle's Express Tech: The first and last BC most will ever need (or want)

There's no point in the longer corrugated hose. Why should I have to special order the appropriate size? Same thing, a donut wing should be standard. Same thing again, standard elbow should be just that, the standard. Wonky nonetheless, I don't like how you have to thread the wing with the...

Zeagle's Express Tech: The first and last BC most will ever need (or want)

Really good looking BC and I love the design. I definitely have a hankerin' from one now. The only problem is it has the same old Zeagle issues: ~Corrugated hose as long as an elephant's trunk ~U-shaped wing ~Shoulder pull dump and extra lower pull dump ~Wonky wing-to-BC connection The...

    NACD Conference Chili Cook-off

The NACD is hosting chili cook-off at the Ginnie Social on Friday November 20th. Keep your fellow cave divers warm with your chili and see how it stands up against other cave divers and our firefighting judges! We will have 3 different categories: Hot, Traditional and Exotic. The NACD is going...

    Moving to Jacksonville!

I am fond of Scuba Tiger in Orange Park, which is really close to Jax NAS but not so close to Mayport, but I drive there from St. Augustine. As far as diving goes, there are a lot of people who enjoy diving off Jax, I'm not one of them. Most of the springs are 1.5 hours away and I do most of...

    PADI OW Sidemount Diver

I dunno, that'd be something to take up with the charter operator. I can say, most of the time I've asked to bring something... "non-standard" (doubles, scooter, deco bottle) I always get asked "You got a card for that?" At least now, someone who's taken this class can say yes.

    Cavern Class Info Please

Bama is correct. You will not need an H-valve for Cavern, but you will (or doubles) for Intro to Cave. Before you buy a single piece of gear I strongly suggest you meet with your instructor. They will save you wasted time, energy and more importantly money.

Long hose primary now, BP/W later?

Well, the OP did ask the question in the DIR forum and he got the standard internet DIR answers. Don't think you could expect anything less really. However, as abrasive as some of the responses have been, I feel they are spot-on. DIR takes a fair amount of commitment and those in the know are...

Before debating skills vs. equipment, please consider Risk Compensation

Very interesting thread. I think what it all boils down to (in diving, at least) is that a piece of gear or new training may change our perceived risk, actual risk or subject knowledge but will not change our fundamental risk tolerance. It will not make us safer, only a change in risk...

So I want to start down the road... (to a cave cert)

Well, the first step is going to be a cavern class. You should be familiar with reels and spools and how to use them, good buoyancy & trim and frog kicking. You don't have to be a master or anywhere near it, but they shouldn't be foreign to you either. You should be Advanced, Rescue is even...
