Picking a new op with pier pickup at Blue Angel

I really enjoyed diving with Mateo. Good briefings with key info only. Relaxed diving and excellent group management that kept things relaxed and independent. I'd love to chat with him about his time on tour. I saw about 40 shows in the late 80s early 90s, including some JGB shows. We got to...

Picking a new op with pier pickup at Blue Angel

That's what we saw on their site, too. One boat departed at 8:00, which was a group trip and not available for us to join. Two, maybe three, other boats departed at 9:00 and No Problem at 10:00. We were on the 9:00 Jibara with Matt most mornings and had great dives. Enjoyed our stay and plan to...

Picking a new op with pier pickup at Blue Angel

Just at Blue Angel 2-3 weeks ago and we were picked up by Aldora. Aldora was a 7:45 AM pick up, so the breakfast issue John experienced is still a thing. Ordering in advance is a fine idea we did not think of. We would go at 7:00 and be 100% ready to go down to the dock from the restaurant. You...

    Norte Predictions

Saturday's forecast looks very similar to Friday's, with the max wind speeds increasing a bit and progressively shifting towards the SSW into Sunday. Saturday might be a good day to go for a cenotes trip or to the east side for a few hours. Either is a nice way to spend a port closure. The...

Divemasters in Cozumel (and specifically with Dressel Divers)

I love when the pre dive briefing is 30 seconds or less. Once the DM sees that everyone knows the drill, there's little to say in most cases. When a DM starts to go through all of the critters we might see, my wife looks over at me with a smile because she knows I grow quite weary of DMs doing...

    2 days to dive

Consider Blue Heron Bridge after your Jupiter dives. High tide is late afternoon/early evening in early May, so if your Jupiter dives are AM trips, you'll have time to go to BHB afterwards. On day 2, Pompano or Boynton are good destinations for nice diving or head south to Key Largo.

Question Only Instructor wears dive computer (extra charge if I want one)

The title to this thread does not quite match your post, so I am a bit confused. Who is the "instructor" in this case? Are you referring to an instructor who is going to be on this reef/wreck trip? $50 is a lot for a one day computer rental. If it's for a week, then it is reasonable. You...

    Blue Angel dive op?

Saw this photo last week at Blue Angel. Looks like BA when it was perhaps La Perla or Hotel Lorena. Here are two other angles of the same photo. Can anyone ID this? Perhaps @Dave Dillehay or @ggunn?

    MESS AT COZUMEL AIRPORT

I like the Diego's Tacos idea and will need to try that next time. For Southwest, check in begins 24 hours before the flight. You get your boarding position when you check in on line at no charge. The paid upgrades auto-check you in before the 24 hour mark and you usually get a spot in the first...

Question Are You Tired of the Taxi Ripoff?

Up front. One driver asked stated a fare of $50MX to go somewhere it had cost me $40MX the day prior, so I asked for $40MX and he agreed easily. I ended up just giving him $50MX anyway. Not one moto driver played the "I don't have change" game, either, which was refreshing. Kept with the habit...

    MESS AT COZUMEL AIRPORT

This was in Cozumel. When we arrived at 2:00 for our 4:10 flight to Denver, we saw about 8 flights scheduled on the departure board before ours. We figured there was no way we pull away from the gate on time, but we did. Maybe even a few mins early.

    Restaurant Finds?

I used this thread to add to my list of places to try out. I can report on a few that were new to us: Conchita del Caribe was very good. Had ceviche and grilled fish (one garlic and one Vera Cruz). All very tasty. Massive portions (wish the ceviche came in a small). Similar in style to El Moro...

    MESS AT COZUMEL AIRPORT

Yesterday the line to get through security and board flights was one hour. Airline agents were pulling people from the line to get them through if they were close to miss their flight. Glad we arrived at the airport with the usual 2 hour buffer.

Question Are You Tired of the Taxi Ripoff?

Just returned from the island and we used the moto taxis several times. I did not notice anything about roof colors, but they are not allowed on Melgar and one moto driver said he was not allowed to take us even though we were out on Av 30. It was fairly easy to flag one down east of Melgar by...

    Norte Predictions

I think the port opened around 11:00 AM today. There's people scheduled to go on a night dive tonight, too. We went to the cenotoes in Tulum this AM rather than wait around. With the southern sites closed quite a bit this week, we dove lots of the sites north of Cedral (which is on temp season...

Is there anywhere left in the Caribbean with healthy reefs in 2024?

I like diving in Florida, from Jupiter down to the Keys and IMO the best diving are the artificial reefs/wrecks not the reefs which I think are quite beat up. While the Cozumel reefs are not super fishy like they used to be, there are still plenty of fish. There is just not a ton of variety...

    Norte Predictions

With the forecast looking similar for Friday, we are thinking of going to PDC on the ferry for a cenotes trip. How often do the ferries get closed, too? We'd hate to get stuck on the PDC side due to closure.

    Question Snorkeling Recommendations for Coz?

We have been to Cozumel with our kids when they were tweens. Mainly we took turns diving with another couple, alternating AM and PM trips. Eventually, the activities at the AI (which is great when you have kids with you) kept them so occupied and happy we dove all four of us a couple of times...

    MESS AT COZUMEL AIRPORT

On Saturday it took us 1h45m to get through passport control. We started in line outside near gate 5, which is where the carts bring in the bags to baggage claim. Fortunately, the lines were well organized and the remodel likely helped.

    New Taxi App?

Downloaded the app and entered my phone number on the authentication screen and waited to receive a code via text. No code and when I retry, I get an error message that states I have tried to authenticate too many times. Wonder if I'll start getting an abundance of spam calls now.
