North Sulawesi safety and travel questions....

I have researched this very heavily but I wanted to ask a couple questions...... First off, I am leaving for a trip to Lembeh Strait in 1 month. I am a US Citizen and I'll be traveling through Seoul, South Korea as well as Singapore before catching a Garuda flight to Manado with a connection...

Caribbean Pearl Out Of Commission?? Any Idea Why?

I was thinking about looking into a September trip on Caribbean Pearl in Utila and Roatan for September. That's quite a ways out, but I was told by their reservation staff the boat is "out of commission" until further notice. I have asked what the reason is (since their is no time frame as to...

Aggressor/Dancer Fleet Wine Appreciation weeks.....anyone ever done one?

Hey all....I haven't posted in a while but I am starting my 2016 dive trip brainstorm session. I do know this....next year I will be finally making the purchase of a DSLR kit - camera, housing, lights, lenses....the works. Last year I did a trip on the Febrina in Papua New Guinea and it was...

Papua New Guinea liveaboard diving: Milne or Kimbe?

If you are still thinking about your travel through Port Moresby - it might be worth just booking an overnight at the Airways Hotel. It's expensive - but compared to the overall trip cost it might just be worth it to arrive into Port Moresby, head over to the Airways Hotel, then try to get out...

3 1/2 days away from my departure for Papua New Guinea on the Febrina

PLEASE excuse me showboating and having next to no point for this thread.....with the exception of... I will be providing a very detailed trip report up to date for the Febrina diving north New Britain Island, Papua New Guinea. This will be my second time there and in 2010 (my first trip), I...

DC1400 pics from Indonesia (Lembeh Straight and Manado)

I've PM'd you on this (hopefully you got the message) but did the macro lens work out okay? I'm in my final 6 weeks of planning before I head to PNG and I'll be shooting with my DC1400, dual strobes, fisheye lens for wide angle, and I'd love to have an optical advantage for macro......

    Kona Aggressor

My update isn't recent as I was on the Kona Aggressor II in August of 2009, but it was my first liveaboard and it got me addicted to liveaboard diving. I loved the crew, the boat was great, the diving was awesome - and even though you're always very close to shore, the boat travels so far south...

Best full foot fins for 5 [repetitive] dives a day on a liveaboard

I've been using the same fins (open heel fins with booties) for 16 years.....but I'm interested in getting some full foot fins. Now, when I did my first liveaboard in 2009 I learned the need to use lycra socks inside my dive booties or the skin on my feet would get really torn to shreds. I've...

sealife dc1400 macro lens......has it ever been considered?

That's cool. I would love to see comparison shots from your upcoming Lembeh trip. Do you have the 8x or 16x lens? I had that macro lens back when I used to use the Reefmaster film camera 15 years ago (I don't have it anymore). Even if it makes a moderate difference I will probably go about...

sealife dc1400 macro lens......has it ever been considered?

Pillpusher, did you ever try the Reefmaster macro lens on your DC1400???? If it doesn't fit, do you have any ideas as to how to create an adapter to make it fit? Would the lens actually make a difference in the long run? I imagine the 16x would be better than the 8x, but I'm curious.....

sealife dc1400 macro lens......has it ever been considered?

Would the old macro lens for the reefmaster fit on the 1400? Or would there be a way to modify it to somehow fit? Would it be worth a try to see if it could fit?

sealife dc1400 macro lens......has it ever been considered?

Pillpusher, I talked to ReefNet today and had literally the same discussion with them. And I also agree that if they have come out with a wide angle lens, they DEFINITELY should have a macro lens. They like to pretend that their cameras have some DSLR capabilities, so why not give us the optical...

sealife dc1400 macro lens......has it ever been considered?

Pillpusher, Forgive me for being a stone-cold rookie whose still working on his career and hasn't been able to dive headfirst into the DSLR world....but THANK YOU!!! That's very helpful! So you can simply mount this diopter on as a wet-mount externally? From the looks of it you can.....and...

sealife dc1400 macro lens......has it ever been considered?

Has sealife ever considered making a macro lens that can be attached externally just like the fisheye lens? I know that there is a macro mode, but a lens would be ideal wouldnt it?

Any other photographers out there feel rushed and left behind on dives?

Thanks for all the replies folks. Your answers pretty much drew me to the conclusions I'd been coming to myself....hire a guide and take your time that way. I do like the other ideas too though of finding a "somewhat" inexperienced buddy and try to introduce them to taking their time, looking...

Any other photographers out there feel rushed and left behind on dives?

I was wondering what some of you folks out there think about how underwater photographers - who want to take good pictures and often times must take a little longer to do it - should keep up with groups? I've found myself in drift diving instances or guided diving situations (because I'm old...

New to California diving....any helpful advice?

I'm new to diving in California - I've dove the Puget Sound for a drysuit course 5 years ago and loved it. I have a very unique opportunity to head out with Truth Aquatics and dive the backside of Catalina Island the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. I've dove PNG, Palau, Cocos Island, Hawaii...

Someone post a good PNG trip report.....preferably from the MV Febrina....any takers?

I would have to say the air travel in and out of PNG IS a definite adventure. Personally I have booked my international long-haul travel on Delta from Minneapolis-Los Angeles-Sydney round trip.....I had enough frequent flier miles that I was able to do it for free in business class and only had...

    Diving sidemount on liveaboards?

I guess I shouldn't have cited my Palau trip example a few years ago.....honestly, I really don't care what you guys do with sidemount tanks.....but if I were to ever do something like that I'd clear it with the charter operator. If you want to dive them - feel free. I won't lose any sleep at...
