New "Advanced Diver" sea sick the whole time!

I usually get sea sick on live aboards on 1st day after I feed the fish I'm ok .I've tried over the counter, ginger , and a few others , still sometimes I get sick 1st day out of 3-4 day trip. I have also gotten hit with it 80% of the times when I do dives off of a boat. once again after...

Concerns About Length of Open Water Course

For some 2 days is fine .I read & studied all course material & loved the pace of the class(of course I'd been watching Sea Hunt , Voyage to the Bottom of the sea & anything I could since I was a kid) After my cert I was in the water 6-8 dives a month(some solo, some SOSD).My partner who took...

how tight should a wetsuit fit?

I tried on about 8-9 different wet suits before I found one that fit my "Body type", Scuba.com was cool I ordered 4 from them (none fit ) but they were great about returns, I also tried 3 different LDS till I found what I needed. PS: its nice to have someone around while trying on suits , you...

The penalty should be whatever was set forth."If you cant do the time Dont do the crime" Man up ! If you decide to break the law you know the consequences & should be prepared to deal with them ,otherwise dont break them.Dont try to justify or rationalize after the fact. 1 abalone multiplied by...

    No buddy, no help.

This does not qualify as a "good story" or a "good safety lesson" unless...The moral of the story is "Safe Divers" use fins not lead boots. I will keep that in mind next time I'm boat diving.

    No buddy, no help.

I'm looking at this post and cant for the life of me figure out: #1what a difference a buddy would have made ?#2 is it considered Rec Scuba with "lead boots"?#3 If it was surface supplied couldnt somebody(crew) pull a rope or hose to stop his sudden decent ? All in all this post feels like a...

black ice bcd bouyancy and weighting advice

I started out with about 26lb.s 26'2"/210lb. in a 9/8/6 wetsuit. As my comfort level went up my weight went down & as my suit compressed even more. Now I'm at 18-20lb.s And if your diving an AL tank you might notice its a little harder to stay down towards end of dives, but you'll work it out in...

    Wet suit fit question

I used to use a dive skin but found its much better when its"skin to wetsuit" ,just use the hair conditioner trick to slide it on easily. Also different manufactures cut there suits differently. Even if it gives weight/height the variables are so many(chest/arms/waist/thighs)not only length but...

    Wetsuit Thickness versus Temperature Guide

I dive a Excel 9/7/6semi-dry(9mm on core)I'm fairly warm 45º f and up. Just thoughtI'd throw in another "thickness" combo, I've also seen 8/7/6s(8mm).

    Leisurepro bait and switch

Wow, the OP has provided Leisure Pro with more unpaid/unsolicited POSITIVE testimonies than they could've asked for. I order Scuba.com mostly, but I too have had nothing but good results when dealing with Leisure Pro.

    DM blew me off

I would have had a little more sympathy if the OP didnt signal 50 bar(over 700psi) ,then continue until 10 bar(less than 150psi) acting as if it was the DMs fault. When you signal your low & get no response look to the direction the bubbles are going and follow at a slow pace he had plenty of...

    DM blew me off

I've been following this for a few days & it seems the blame is shared pretty equally. The DM shouldnt have to cut the dive short at the expense of the more experienced (air monitoring) pleasure, but at the same time after seeing the OP had a problem with air consumption the DM should have had a...

Thoughts on this for my first setup (cold water)

If your doing cold water I'd suggest going with a SS backplate .It will take some weight off of your waist and distribute it a little better.I got a Hollis hrness & Diverite wing , I'm very happy with both. HOG regs ?? Some love'm some dont(but I dont think thats so much from bad experiences as...

Time For Some Industry Standards for Dive Computer Alarms

I think it would be nice (for people with Buddys) to have some standardized alarms for low air or "need help". But it would be impractical to have computers always figuring out individual air consumption ,air/time needed for return to surface/boat/shore. It also means that new divers would get...

how many pairs of fins do you own?

4 pairs for me: 1)Oceanic Vipers 2)Mares splits 3)L-SP Jets(Ebay $15) 4) US Divers(target snorkel pack) I mainly use my Mares splits for lobster diving ,my Vipers for spearfishing/Ab diving. And for general use whatever the flip of the coin brings for that day And 3 pair I bought for...

Going solo - what do you think?

I know this is not always the recommended practice but...my 1st dives after getting certification were solo Dives (5-100+) But my 1st 10 solo were in a spot where there were 1)plenty of other divers 2)where I did my OW training so I was familiar with spot 3)classes being conducted within same...

    Issues with Customer Service

I have a DiveRite wing(which I have no complaints about at all) But after reading this thread I'm definitely gonna being looking at DDS for my next purchase. This just sealed the deal. Everything else I've read was always positive and helpful but the service they provided for next to nothing on...

    Fin straps

Spring traps are great.I have the plastic buckles which fit on my mares , oceanic's,tusa's ( I wish they would've worked on my jets)Which saves me a little money on straps ,depending on what kind of diving I'm doing. I switch fins same straps. I have over 150 dives on them ,no problems.
