    Bonaire vs Curacao

Funny thing, I HATE sandy beach entries, you've got sand everywhere once you're out, give me rocks, irons shore, anything but sand!!! Flutter, if you're husband is good for it, have him do the 'dive sherpa' thing. Last trip, because my SO hurt herself just before the trip I was carrying her...

    Seldom visited shore diving sites

Thanks for the feedback. We've been lucky with the park roads I guess, it never even took close to as long as they said it would to drive around the sites.

    Seldom visited shore diving sites

I want to reemphasize, since upon reread I make it look like it's easy... do it with a guide for the first few times! I didn't find Boka Slagbai to be that interesting (although it has a big sandy area which we sometime use to do pictures of us holding signs with messages for friends back...

    Seldom visited shore diving sites

Without knowing what's your usual path, that's kinda hard to say. For the ultimate 'off the beaten path on Bonaire' diving with Bas Tol is the way to go, he's got the experience and the knowledge to get you to places that aren't dived too often. For dives that are easier to do on your own...

Burned by chemical heat pack on deco - Scotland

Hey... diving with those things isn't the best idea, but you got to admit that he showed a great deal of resilience spending 20min with that thing burning him and surfacing on a proper ascent. That must have been so painful. Hats off to him for suffering through this.

    Factors affecting deep scuba diving

In light of this and comments from Akimbo and other sat/commercial divers who have operated in those depths... why are people doing this? I personally learned a lot reading those threads... I have a blender cert, but doing 32% nitrox is hell of a lot more forgiving than doing 3% 02 mixtures...

    Diving with Bas

Dove the east side with Bas Tol (Baby beach, Washikemba, Boca Onima, Cai, ...), I highly recommend you do it, he's a good guide and it makes for very nice dives, a nice change of pace from the east side.

BONAIRE: THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY (Trip Report, May 16 - 23)

I feel everybody is pilling up on the OP but he brings a few valid points. You got to be efficient and start early (or finish late I guess) if you want to do 4-5 dives a day in Bonaire... or anywhere else! Most liveaboards I've been to with that kind of schedule had you up really early to start...

Nice place to stay in Bonaire

We stayed at Bamboo Bali a few years ago, realy great place, the owners are very friendly and incredibly useful. It's one of the nicest place I've seen on the island. The only drawback is that it's not oceanfront. And it's pretty private, you probably won't meet tons of people there. If you...

Steel 120? A good buy, or an odd ball tank?

Got a pair of steel HP 120s, I like them since they're the same diameter than AL80s so no futzing around adjusting the cam bands when I switch between em (yes I am sometimes lazy like that) They're taller than 80s so I wouldn't recommend them for smaller persons since when you pick them up you...

    Backpacking with dive gear

I did a month and a half in Asia, with all my gear in my backpack. More flashpacking than backpacking though, this was a divetrip. Big bag was a Gregory (Whitney I think), big ass back country backpack. Full to the brim, with fins (smallish), vest (oxycheq ultralite), strobe arms + camera tray...

Risk of CO (versus incorrect O2 tank levels)

CO in the tank doesn't mean you'll instantly die, especially on shorter/shallower dives... there has to be many incidents that do not get reported because the symptoms of CO poisoning are headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion, quite common with either sea...

    "Allowed" to dive

Of course there's a fee ; ) But really for divers it's pocket change compared to other fees, not sure for instructors, it's 15$ every 3 years. The check dive is a bit more expensive, mostly the same price as hiring a DM/instructor for a dive (cost me 60$ including the short boat ride to the site...

    "Allowed" to dive

Even if he's from Qc, he's wrong. Basically the law on safety in sports states that if you're rec diving (as opposed to commercial diving) in the province of Quebec you have to hold a "Certificate of qualifcation in recreational subaquatic diving", which is normally issued when you take your...

    BP/W pocket quandary for women

My girlfriend uses short pockets when diving wet, I have the UTD ones she has the ones from scubapro. IMHO the scuba pro pockets are a bit small but they work, and the fabric is pretty extensible so it fits women body shapes.

    Crazy bioluminescence!!!

Im familiar with the type of bioluminescence you describe, and it's pretty cool, but this was on another order of magnitude. I'll ask around at the shop to see if they know what this is.

    Crazy bioluminescence!!!

Just came out of the water (around dive site 'Chez Hines'), there was something I've never seen before, huge patches of luminescent little things everywhere around us, they seemed to respond to our lights. Anybody knows what this is? Super curious, and also amazed this was one amazing dive!!!

    Lousy shipping options?

For shipping to Canada UPS is probably the worst option if you can afford to wait a but longer and won't freak out if tracking is not accurate. Their brokerage fees are completely ridiculous and they only deliver during work hours so you have to drive to one of their inconveniently located...
