I concur after 3 times doing the manta night dives with Jack’s over many years, most recently in 2021.

Isla Mujeres is a fun place, but the dive sites are pretty much the same as diving from Cancun, which is so-so. The whale shark trip is a one day, snorkel-only event. We liked it a lot, but we probably won't revisit Isla Mujeres for the whale sharks. OTOH, Cozumel is really quite excellent...

I can attest to this ^^. In the context of basic training 50+ years ago — turning many lazy and poorly educated civilians into motivated, disciplined soldiers— it works. But it is a lousy teaching method for civilian dive students, at any level.

My wife and I have been on dive trips to Cozumel about 15 times over the last 16 years. It is a high value, very good dive quality, and relatively safe location topside. IMHO the diving is way better than Hawaii where I have been many times. We have been to French Polynesia, Fiji, and Palau...

I have been on several. If the trip organizer (who has always been a local dive shop owner/spouse) does a good job there is usually an excellent bottle of wine waiting for them back at the shop. Otherwise, I don't "tip" the organizer who is running his/her own business....

This is a bit “historic”, but when I dove the Channel Islands (Anacapa and Santa Cruz Island’s) in 2006 for several days in early and late July the water temp was 65 - 67 degrees. When I did my Rescue course at the Catalina dive park in July of 2010 it was about the same. Always in a 7mm full...

Other issues aside, be aware that July and August can be very hot in La Paz, with daytime highs often exceeding 100 degs F, and a higher heat index. We have been to both La Paz and Loreto in the late summer time and the heat index was 110+. We were either in the water diving or in the swimming pool.

Did you end up diving out of Sayulita, and what did you think? I am going to a beach resort in Sayulita in late April and am pondering my scuba vs. golf possibilities. My wife will hand out at the beach but beach is not my thing....

Scuba Club. Breakfast and lunch included, with a low key dinner option, but close to downtown with all the great restaurants. Slow boats, but I actually enjoy the leisurely rides. We have stayed at both El Prez and the Coz Palace in the past, but the last 8 trips to Coz have been at Scuba Club...

In 2012 my wife and were on Isla Mujeres for a week. We dove several days with the Carey Dive Center, which also arranged for a day excursion to snorkel with whale sharks with a different company, the name of which I have no record. It was a terrific day, which still believe to have been handled...

Turned 73 last month, certified 21 years ago, 382 logged dives. I usually dive with my wife. Keeping up with our dive logs is an enjoyable post-dive ritual.

My wife had this issue some years ago and it was suggested that her primary hose be moved to another port. Problem solved. On other issues, I have a ball swivel that came with my Atomics reg 10 years ago and I like it, and the moldable mouthpiece is really good.

We were on the Palau Siren in 2013. Great boat and crew.
