I was always told by a buddy with worldwide diving experience, when diving out of country always go with a PADI 5* shop. Not sure how valid that is, as the one my daughter and I chose in Cancun ran over some divers a month after we were there.
I've been diving twice in the area. The first time my daughter and I rode the bus from Riu Cancun to Scuba Cancun. We chose to go on the shallower dives because she is JOW, so the boat went to MUSA and a shallow reef off Isla Mujeres.
The next year we stayed way up north at Riu Dunamar. I...
Let me know if you make any progress finding a dive or fishing charter. I'll be in Playa at the same time, so I may be interested if i can figure out my own logistics. My son told me the other day he wants to go fishing, but he's 9 so i'm not sure how committed we would be.
Good point on diving in cold water, she'd hate that. I will likely just have to pony up and pay down there. LostDiver71, I think that dive shop is quite the journey from where we are staying (puddle jumper or long ferry), but worth checking.
Thanks for the contacts tbone1004. And yes Jcp2, she is 10. I found out that the Bonne Terre mines in southern Missouri offer year round training, as water temps don't fluctuate.
Hi All. After many years of "thinking" we finally booked a trip to Turks & Caicos, and my daughter is set on diving with me. We are heading down in early April, but now I need to get her certified prior to leaving. The hard part is finding a local place to complete the open water checkout...
I originally wanted to stay around LBTS, but I got a smoking deal on the Westin through hotwire and it's actually less per night than windjammer. I'll probably only dive 1 day, so location for convenient diving wasn't my top priority.
I haven't priced rentals yet, but I just assumed with the resort charging $20/night for parking it wouldn't be worth getting a car since we'll be spending most of our time at the beach. I'll have to look into it though
Glad to hear the Westin is a good place. We aren't familiar with the area, so i was basing it off tripadvisor reviews and pictures. Since it's vacation and one of the few times I"ll get to dive this year, I can justify getting a cab ride up to one of the local dive shops. Thanks for the help...
Thanks for the continued info, i appreciate it. Based on my google skills and what you've suggested, I"ll probably take a taxi. I'll also keep watching the GCS to see if any dives work with my schedule. We're staying at the Westin Diplomat, which I guess is on the south end of the hotel zone...
Hey Corc, where are you going to do your OW dives at? Now that you're getting certified, all your vacations will be planned to go somewhere you can get a dive in. So the next time you and The Bob go somewhere fun, you better invite me!!!
Thanks for the info you've provided so far. I figured I'll have to take a short cab ride. I scoped out the Gold Coast Scuba Meetup Group, pretty cool and made me wish I lived in the area so I could join. Another thing, I'll probably have to rent gear because this is our family vacation and...
Hey everyone, I'll be staying at a resort in Hollywood Beach from 6/12-6/18 and am looking for recommendations on who to schedule a dive with. I won't be able to travel too far to get to a boat, as I won't have a car. Do you of any reputable dive shops in the area, or I'm also open to meeting...
Thanks for the info you've provided. I think I'll give Capt. Pat a call this week and try to get a dive scheduled with him. JEC, I'll send you a pm. Thanks.
