Trip Report Malapascua and Moalboal March 2023

Returned last week from the Philippines and had a great time ... except the long travel. We flew IAD-LAX-TPE-CEB using EVA Air. We were extremely lucky flying into and out of TPE. As a SCUBABOARD member had recommended that the transfer between TPE-CEB should be a couple of hours to insure we...

    Question Finally headed to Cebu

I carry everything in my backpack 😎 but my fellow traveller checks a lot of stuff. I'll recheck out TPE layover. Yes, looking forward to the thresher sharks!

    Question Finally headed to Cebu

We missed our trip to Cebu in March of 2020 due to the Wuhan Red Death and (fingers crossed) scheduled to finally make the trip in March (2 weeks away!!). Headed to Cebu and will be diving in Malapascua (Exotic resort) and Moalboal (Kasai Village Resort). Crazy travel this time around ...

What to do if you test positive before flying home?

Collect'em all .... Moderna, Pfizer, J&J, Novavax, Sputnik, Sinovac (+++ afterall it was created there) But the REAL key is make sure you have had and recovered from Covid first before receiving all the above since those reported links say that it's really even better.

Trip Report CocoView Resort May 8-15, 2021

That's part of Roatan's SOSUS system .... the sharks use them to gauge the size of their next meal. Bob

Trip Report CocoView Resort May 8-15, 2021

Richard, Thanks for such a comprehensive Trip Report, brought back many great memories! I'm a CocoNut (8 trips, although I haven't been since 2001) and had the pleasure of Diving with Doc on a couple of occasions. I remember some great night dives especially on CoCoView wall and an "enduro"...

Spiegel Grove fatality - Key Largo, Florida

I guess growing up here in the Mid-Atlantic and diving wrecks up and down the coast comes with a bit of experience in using a Jon Line. I've used a couple of the clips and several "home made" types that allow you to stay horizontal and AWAY from the anchor line. Just BING (I used to work for...

Trip Report Island House (rental) & AquaSafari

Kimela, Love Island House, stayed there a number of times PRIOR to them building the 2nd house. Back then it was owned by Ron and Sherrie White, a great couple. It was great for our smaller group.

    Punta Sur/Devil's Throat

BTW, Cathedral and Devil's Throat are not the only Punta Sur Dive sites, but no one dives the third (can't remember the name) much. About 10 years ago or so, diving with Aldora with Memo as the dive guide and using 120s with nitrox, we did all three on one dive. Memo called it "active nitrox...

    Punta Sur/Devil's Throat

I guess I have a different opinion .... It's always been a fun dive (especially at night). The overall complex has quite a number on entries and exits and since I've been to Coz many times since the 80's I've had the opportunity to dive many of them. I like the combo of doing cathedrals and...

    More silly airline games

Here's a newer model that takes into account "carried-on" baggage and incentives/de-incentives to optimize time to board/offboard. In the early 80's SWA had their turns down to 30minutes. Other carriers like the one I worked for (USeless Air) could never approach this. Off course back in those...

    Lockdown Impacts / Implications

You should see if the newer T-cell test is available. Launched by biotech company Adaptive, in collaboration with Microsoft, the "T-Detect" COVID-19 test looks for the unique signals of the virus through T-cells, which can "remember" prior infections. T cell immunity is likely more...

Trip Report Blue Angel Resort trip report Feb. 2021

OMG, the DIR/Halcyon folks will hate that set-up. No long hose and an integrated 2nd/inflator!! I too use just my regular Poseidon Cyklon 5000 and an integrated 2nd/inflator (great for travel! :happywave: I see it's a SS so do you have challenges with buoyancy in tropical waters? I use my...

    Trip report: 1/2-1/9 2021

I usually just use Xoom (PayPal) and pick up my cash (in pesos) at Electra. I believe there are many places to do this on Coz. Bob

    Breakfast place open @ 7am?

I'm always surprised that no one mentions the Mercado Municipal .... we always visit Taqueria Molina early for tacos etal before heading to the Aldora pier. Certainly easy for anyone staying in-town. Last visit I believe they start serving around 6:15am or so.

Shuttles from airport - any changes due to COVID?

I'll be first in line for the AZ vaccine. I like "choices" and do not want to jump on the mRNA extended "trials". BTW I used to work for AZ's BIOtech arm,: Medimune. Bob Bethesda, MD

What is your favorite of all time regulator?

Still using several of my Poseiden Cyklon 5000s (metal 2nd stage) And what makes them great are the Comfo-Bite mouthpieces that I've successfully adapted. Bob
