    Giant Jellyfish Invasion!

I saw another one today in the Keramas. No where near giant. It was about as big as a normal person's hand. Still waiting on the giant...

I have only seen a couple of the invading jellyfish so far. Still waiting to see the giant ones... The ones that I have run across were no bigger than a silver dollar.

    Tips in Japan

Hi I was wondering if any of you fellow divermasters or instructors have ever received tips from your customers? As you know the Japanese don't tip. I think it is a cultural thing... not sure to be honest. But that having been said, I have gotten some pretty cool tips from some of the...

How to dive the non-Japanese way?

From my experience here I've seen tanks at 2600 - 3000 PSI. Some of the J-Divemasters really do go the extra mile. I had a little laugh 2 days ago when I had a DM make me wait to get on the ladder to the boat while he took the fins off all his customers. WOW! Now that is service...

    Equipment pricing in Japan!?!?

IMHO the prices in Japan are usually 2 times to 3 times more expensive for dive gear. Above someone hit the nail on the head when they mentioned the import fees. Shipping to Japan is really expensive. However you can find some good deals with Doug over at Reef Encounters in Okinawa. I have...

I want to give it a go too. I think that I have seen some websites that help. If you're in Okinawa maybe we can study for it together.

    Hello from Japan!

Hi and welcome! I think you should go for your next certificate if that is what makes you happy! Diving is a great way to relax, make friends, challenge yourself, and learn about the oceans. Good luck on the PADI Open Water!

I want to see a clownfish!

Japan-Diver is right. Less that 5 mins walk from Reef Encounters (Japan-Diver's shop), you can get in the water at Sunabe and see a bunch of clownfish. I see a couple of them everytime I dive there about 40 yards from the entry point. There is also a specific dive site you can go to and see...

    Sensuishi needed in Okinawa?

I have not tried the sensuishi yet, but I passed the IE. Eventually I will try out the sensuishi test. I just have to be in that mood or mind set to tackle the challenge, you know what I mean? When I finally go for it I want to attack it with 100% effort. Right now life is happening and that is...

How to dive the non-Japanese way?

Just an idea, but if you went with a local shop in Japan a few times and got to know the crews they might cut you some slack. I think that if they have seen you around and have dove with you they will accept you and rent to you. I never had this issue so this is just a guess.

Conference in Okinawa, should I dive?

The diving is a bargain! If you are here and you look at the blue ocean how can you not want to dive? LOL

Okinawa is just a plane ride away. Turn off you PC. Pack your scuba bag and get on a plane.

I want SCUBA to be my job...

I've seen people come to Japan and try to make an "American" business. They soon learn that they are in big trouble. You have to really keep in mind that in most non-divers minds the concept of scuba diving is extremely dangerous. Throw in the fact that if the instructor can not communicate...

I want SCUBA to be my job...

Learning to dive and becoming a diver trying to make a living is very different. First there are a lot of people out there that have the same idea. It is kind of like waking up and grabbing your guitar and saying I think I will become a rockstar. You may be able to pull it off, but there is a...
