Diving in Philippines in January - Cebu, Bohol or Boracay?

Hi, For superb diving in very small groups (max 4 divers) and by far the best whale shark watching in the Philippines, check out Padre Burgos Castle Resort in Southern Leyte. Diving conditions at the moment are excellent (although at 27 degrees the water is a little on the 'cool' side) and...

    Palawan or Sogod?

There's still a limited flight schedule at the moment, but if the times work out there's no problem with flying to Tacloban and getting either public or private transport down to Padre Burgos.

Area with a beach as nice as Malapascua ?

Padre Burgos has some great, deserted beaches and wonderful diving.

Combined diving and beach holiday - Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand?

The Visayas region in the Philippines has some great diving and beaches, especially on the islands of Cebu, Negros, Bohol and Leyte. If you want somewhere really relaxed and non-touristic check out Padre Burgos in Southern Leyte, where you can also snorkel with whale sharks at that time of year...

Never been there, don't know anything about it!

There are lots of great places to choose from. 2 destinations in 3 weeks makes sense to give some variety without too much time spent traveling. Padre Burgos in Southern Leyte has great walls, amazing macro, pristine corals, the night dive at the town jetty is awesome and from November thru May...

    Leyte .. or not ?

Actually whale sharks in Southern Leyte are from November to May - lots there at the moment being seen every day. There are plenty of non-diving activities around Padre Burgos (dolphin watching, island hopping, sailing, waterfalls, caving, hikes to hill-top churches, deserted beaches, etc) but...

Oslob whale shark - to do or NOT do it!?

That's nonsense and a pathetic excuse. Other places protect whale sharks and organise whale shark watching without feeding and taming the sharks. Over 100 different whale sharks have been identified at Oslob in the past 12 months, compared with over 400 at Donsol in the past 6 years. So a huge...

Malapascua and Sogod - need help please

There are currently plenty of whale sharks in Southern Leyte and hopefully that will continue through May. There is no longer (since Dec 2012) a ferry from Ubay to Maasin, but there are ferries from Ubay to Hilongos and from Ubay to Bato. To get to Padre Burgos from Malapascua by public...

    Opinions about our itinerary (Bohol-Panglao-Siquijor-Apo-Cebu-Malapascua)

Each to his own, but this is a hell of a lot of travelling. Stick to 2 or at most 3 places. For a much more enjoyable experience, see the whale sharks and have some great diving in Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte (ferry from Cebu) and combine there with Bohol (daily ferry connections) with a week...

Looking for OMFG experience. hard to impress kinda guy. Boracay and Bohol

If you want to shop or party, that is true. But if you like nature and activities there is plenty to do with superb snorkeling from the shore and on boat trips, dolphin watching, uncrowded swimming (snorkeling) with whale sharks, sailing, island hopping, waterfalls, caving, trekking, zip line...

    Suggestions for area's to vist

For a combination of very quiet and superb diving, check out Padre Burgos in Southern Leyte. In July/August you'll miss the whale sharks so it will be even quieter - and the viz will be even better.

Dumaguete/Dauin/Apo Vs. Bohol? Which is best?

From Malapascua you can arrange a private boat over to Leyte and then head down to Padre Burgos for whale sharks (snorkeling only), excellent macro, great walls and one of the best night dives for critters anywhere.

Where to dive in late March for must-see PI experiences?

I know this area and all the operators very well. Anything is possible, and 2 years ago whale sharks congregated at Limasawa Island for a couple of months and for a period of about 1 week in May last year there was 1 whale shark seen regularly at Limasawa. There have also been times when whale...

Where to dive in late March for must-see PI experiences?

Outpost. To get in 3 places, then Padre Burgos, Bohol, Dauin would be efficient in terms of travel and give you some great diving. Fly to Tacloban, ferry from Leyte to Bohol, ferry from Bohol to Dumaguete and fly back to Manila. Would also work in the other direction, or by starting in Cebu and...

Where to dive in late March for must-see PI experiences?

If you have only 7 - 10 days you should settle on no more than 2 out of your 3 options, otherwise you will lose a lot of time travelling. Much better to fly than take a ferry from or back to Manila. Fly to Tacloban for Sogod Bay, Cebu for Malapascua or direct to Dumaguete.

Where to dive in late March for must-see PI experiences?

Only snorkeling with the whale sharks is permitted in Southern Leyte. One clever Dick operator sometimes takes his customers diving where the whale sharks congregate. It's pretty average diving there, the chances of a whale shark swimming past the divers are very low, and they've been known to...
