Not too many people traveling to Dominican republic realize that not all the waters are the Caribbean sea. Punta Cana on the east and Puerto Plata on the north are all surrounded by the Atlantic ocean, therefore not as calm as the Caribbean sea in Bayahibe area on the south.

Don't dive solo with one tank and without a proper training - you are asking for trouble. As said above you should have learned how to deal with it in your OWD course AND check your equipment before you go to the water!!!!

La Romana port is about 15 minute drive from Bayahibe where most of the trips start.

If you are coming for a scuba diving vacation, Punta Cana is not the best area. If you enjoy resorts and nice beaches, Punta Cana is a place to go. Most divers will tell you that diving around Bayahibe is the best, there are few AI resorts in the area too

I am not sure how good that would be for discovery scuba, it is the Atlantic side. It,s not too far from Nagua and the water around Nagua is always very rough. You can try to set something up in Sosua, but that would be about an hour drive from Cabrera.

All the small dive operators in Bayahibe (and I guess all over the world) have to take good care of all their equipment and the air too. They don't have the luxury of big resorts supplying them with thousand of clients, so they have to have everything in perfect shape to keep the clients coming...
