    Weird error with Perdix AI

My Perdix AI had been off since I downloaded yesterday's dive this morning. This afternoon it turned itself on. Initially the temperature reading said 218ºC and then it started flashing with Err as per the picture below. If I turn it off it turns back on. I have since removed the battery. I...

Just switched to drysuit & air consumption has gone up

When I first started diving dry my air consumption went up initially. As I became more comfortable it went back down. Now it is quite a bit less than if I dive wet. Being warm (or at least not being cold) allows me to be more relaxed. I do long dives (usually around 2 hours or more) and in a...

How many dives does it take for one to be competent?

I am capable of making the decisions myself because of the excellent training he gave me. If I still had to rely on him to make decisions, he would have been a poor instructor.

How many dives does it take for one to be competent?

Actually, I have been diving for over 40 years and my instructor is not only still alive but he's still diving (and instructing)!

How many dives does it take for one to be competent?

I have been diving since the late 70's (and, boy, am I tired - boom tish). I normally dive every weekend and sometime during the week, too. I always feel comfortable in the water and my buoyancy is good. I was out of the water for 3 months (94 days, 25 minutes and 32 seconds) due to COVID...

    New Garmin MK2i T1 problem

Nope. Mk1 hasn't had an update in over a year. Garmin no longer care about it - not that they care all that much before.

    New Garmin MK2i T1 problem

Maybe they've "fixed" this in the Mk2. For the Mk1 it only ever appears once and is related to 80% tissue saturation.

    New Garmin MK2i T1 problem

I found the data. I have 3 reg sets which I call Main, Pony, and Backup. Each has an Oceanic branded PPS transmitter and an SPG. I first tested the transmitter and SPG for each reg on different tanks with different pressures to compare each transmitter to the SPG on the same regs. Note that...

Nikon D500 - Can you change the aperture without using the sub-command dial?

Excellent! Yes. It's there on the D500. Thanks! Only that I have been using the front dial for some 15 years and it is muscle memory now. I think it would be difficult for me to switch now. Additionally, I do change the shutter speed from time to time for changing the background lighting...

    New Garmin MK2i T1 problem

I have 3 PPS transmitters and 3 SPGs (3 reg sets). I did a comparison between all three which I'll dig out when I get a chance. They were all pretty close (only 2-3 bar difference if I remember correctly).

Housing for my Nikon D850, is Ikelite a good choice?

I've used Ikelite housings for all my DSLRs: D70 -> D300 -> D7000 and now D500. While I have generally been happy with the housings I have to say that the one for my D500 is the worst yet and the one I've had the most problems with plus it ended up being more expensive that the previous...

Nikon D500 - Can you change the aperture without using the sub-command dial?

After not being able to dive for 3 months (due to COVID restrictions in Sydney), I was setting up my camera rig on Monday morning for my first dive when I discovered that I'd lost a ring from inside the housing (Ikelite) that pushes against the sub-command dial and allows me to change the...

    New Garmin MK2i T1 problem

If it is anything like the Mk1, you'll get a really dumb alert "Approaching NDL". Seems like a good idea, right? Only it has nothing to do with actually approaching NDL and is only displayed when tissue saturation hits 80%. I've received it when my NDL was over 40 minutes! Plus, it will only...

    GoPro advice for all

Great advice. I, too, have been doing this (since I got my first GoPro back in 2011). I have my GoPro mounted on my DLSR camera rig. It's on loc-line but I also attach a wire (fishing) trace to the GoPro and the rig so that if it gets bumped off, it is still tethered. In fact, my torches...

    Feature request: GPS

While I appreciate that getting GPS from a phone will work for a lot of people, it doesn't work for me for the vast majority of my diving. Most of my dives are shore dives and as I swim out from the entry point, even using the phone to get the spot I jumped in won't be accurate to where I...

    Feature request: GPS

That is exactly what I'm talking about - but the two are basically the same problem. Note that I have a Perdix and see the exact same problem. The sensor is in the body of the device. There's no alternate to that. It doesn't matter how close the sensor is to the surface, the temperature of...

    Feature request: GPS

I think that is less about the position of the sensor and more about the Perdix being a big chunk of black. The whole device is going to have to come to the temperature of the water. Not anymore. That feature has been removed.
