Looking forward to Belize next month

Placencia Car Rental is another possibility. They have an office both at the airport and in, wait for it, Placencia, lol. They would probably be willing to drop off a vehicle in Hopkins or you could catch a cab there for maybe $15 or $20. But obviously Hopkins Car Rental would be easier and...

Looking forward to Belize next month

Like Hank said, there's ton to see and do while based in Hopkins. There's zip lining just across the highway a little to the south. Not my thing but for some reason unbeknownst to me other people seem to like it. A little further to the south the Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary And Jaguar...

    Hamanasi Resort to Turneffe

Well, I haven't driven in the DR, Greece or Spain, but I imagine that it must be easier. It really is just as easy as driving in the United States. Maybe even easier because there are practically no traffic cops in the entire country but there are sometimes military checkpoints. Driving...

My solution has always been to go inside, so I’m interested in Chilly’s recommendation.

A couple of more alternatives to the Radisson: The Great House, which is located right across the street. Old, historic renovated house with unique rooms. If you don't like the one you got, you can ask to see the others. Personally, I prefer the one right next to the office on the second...

Traveling to Belize in December 2021 - Covid Warning High Now

That's what I like to see. Glad you had a great time. Next time, try going further south to Hopkins or Placencia (my favorite) and spend some time on the mainland exploring the Mayan ruins and jungle around San Ignacio and Punta Gorda. There's a lot more to Belize than just AC.

Advice - Travel to Belize - first time

I haven't been to AC, but my impression is one of the reasons it's the most popular destination in Belize is that it's the most like the United States. Lots of Americans, tourist shops, restaurants and hotels, that sort of thing. Accordingly, it's just not for me, but I'm glad it's there...

Advice - Travel to Belize - first time

Plecensia? This is what happens when you choose post something on the board at 1 in the morning rather than go to bed. Just having some fun with you, Edward. :poke: If there is a next time, try Placencia. Ralph and Patty of Splash Dive really do try to accommodate their divers wishes...

Belize City by cruiseship, any shop recommendations?

Hugh Parkey's Dive Connection on AC used to pick up divers directly from the cruise ships, but I think they closed down years ago.

What? And miss driving by the Hattieville Prison? :) When I fly in from the States, we usually go right over the prison as we're descending into Goldson. I look forward to seeing it knowing that means we're going to touch down in about another minute.

    Hamanasi Resort to Turneffe

I don't usually recommend driving for first timers in Belize just because it's always a little intimidating whenever I go to someplace completely new. But it really is easy. The car rentals agencies are a two minute walk across the airport parking lot. The roads aren't in great condition but...

Ferry to San Pedro Town, AC

Ditto that. It's not far, but the sidewalks in BZ City can be either non-existent, in bad shape or a bit of an adventure having to step up, down, off and on etc. Hey Dive Diva, nice to see someone else from Portland, Oregon on this board!

Belize City by cruiseship, any shop recommendations?

Sadly, I think you're out of luck. Afaik, as you noted there aren't any other dive shops in BZ City other than Sea Sports and I don't believe any other dive ops cater to the cruise ship crowd. So... you'll just have to make do with a bus tour to the Cave Tubing/Zip Lining destination or the...

    Belize Dive Haven

Oops, yes. Half Moon Caye. That's what I was thinking. It's the usual stop for lunch for Blue Hole dives. Great place. A ratio of one DM for every four divers on a Blue Hole is excellent, and I believe exceeds the recommended guidelines.

    Belize Dive Haven

Jim, what was the ratio of customer divers to staff divers on the Blue Hole dive? Nice write-up, btw. I've been a member of this forum for years, and I learned a few things about Ramons--which is frequently reviewed here-in your post. I'm surprised they didn't take you to Lighthouse Caye...

    San Pedro Resort Recomendations

You are almost certainly going to fly directly from Goldson Aiport to AC. You can take a water bus from Belize City, but most tourists avoid BZ City like the plague. There are only two options for flying: Maya Island Airlines and Tropic Air. No real difference between the two, and both run...

Trip Report Dive Haven Belize Trip report 7/31 thru 8/7/2021 - Turneffe Atoll

I hope so. I don't remember their coffee, but they had really good salads and an imported steak dinner. That's two things Belize isn't good at: coffee and steaks. But they sure know how to cook up a mean mess of stewed chicken, rice and beans. Two of my favorite spots, the first on the...

Trip Report Dive Haven Belize Trip report 7/31 thru 8/7/2021 - Turneffe Atoll

I've been all over Belize, except for AC and CC, and have found that the only chance of scoring a decent cup of coffee is in a dedicated coffee shop. Even then, you take your chances. Best coffee I've found is Above Grounds, which is in a tree house in Placencia.

Asking for Turneffe dive resort recomendations

TIR had a sunken boat site when we were there years ago. I don't know the back story so it may or may not have been done on purpose. In any case, it wasn't impressive. To begin with, it was a small boat, maybe 14 feet, and by the time we dived there it had wasted away to just a few remnants...
