Thanks for posting! Man, it sux to be getting old... My eyes are failing me I can't see the thumbnails very well! I blew them up to 300% and it was just a blurr can you attach them actual size? ---------- Post added August 22nd, 2014 at 12:08 PM ---------- Please anyone post some profiles...

    Petrel v. Vyper :)

The bold comment above is a very good point and you are right, Nitrox does tip the scales in favor of a more conservative computer. I can see the flaw in my test, I'd love to see numbers from other computers planning the first two dives with Air. Well, not quite. My first sample was using...

    Petrel v. Vyper :)

Bud, how are you inferring a rule from what I said? I said, they resemble the average rec. divers and they were gas limited. My point, using a recent example of what I see on a regular basis, is that liberal NDLs are usually a non factor to the large majority of recreational divers when it...

    Petrel v. Vyper :)

Richard, thanks for your contributions... I knew going into this that I'm fighting a loosing battle because at one extreme you can pick the guy diving steel 120s and at the other you can choose the vacation diver doing reef dives in Coz. with an AL80. I recently finished teaching a Nitrox...

Newer Charter in West Palm Area?

+1 What he said! Except I'm not on their boat as often as I wish I were. :) And the URL is Scuba diving in south Florida - Sea Pup Diver

    Petrel v. Vyper :)

I never intended this to become a feature comparison of the two brands, as that would not make any sense. Rather, I intended to compare actual bottom times allowed between a well-liked computer and one that isn't. Herein lies my issue with most of this type of criticism: 1. If you are not...

Sharewater asked me if they could use your NERD picture on their website  Yes, that was a great dive... Let me know when you're down here again and I'll try to escape again.

LOL, you spoiled RB divers don't count and we were due back in the boat in an hour anyway :)

Airport Security Checks and Air Pressure Transmitter

I carry on my reg set with a transmitter to multiple countries; and no no one in the US or elsewhere has ever asked or seemed to care.

I try not to assume much as you probably know what they say. 30/85 is the default setting. I have not played with the Rec. Nitrox setting at all, but I wonder what that is set to. Maybe I'll do the same test diving the Petrel in Rec. Nitrox mode and see what comes up. ---------- Post added...

    Petrel v. Vyper :)

Ok, I'll play along. Dive one: Tables 25 BT, Vyper 25 minutes BT before deco (51 total BT) , Petrel 23 minutes (51 Total BT) Dive two: Tables 60' after SI. BT 29 minutes, Vyper BT before deco 56 minutes, Petrel BT before deco 90+ minutes. During the second dive let's say the average rec...

    Petrel v. Vyper :)

That's exactly what I'm trying to find out. The issue that people bring up all the time is how conservative the computer is during repetitive diving. I realize my two dives don't represent every situation there is, but maybe you would agree that for a recreational diver these two profiles...

But people have been dogging Suunto computers way before the Predator or the Petrel were even around. Mainly because of this perceived extremely conservative and limiting algorithm.

I know a lot of people dog Suunto computers because they are conservative and everyone loves the Petrel. Even people with no aspirations of ever doing planned deco dives. I like them both for different reasons and applications and that's why I own both. I have never been limited on recreational...

    Ceiling Error?

That's very odd, I usually see that sign when I have a short (less than 1hr) S.I. after a deeper dive. But as you point out you had a 1.25 hr S.I. Ironically Suunto DM interprets this icon as Ceiling Error which is absolutely unlikely at the very beginning of the dive, but all other apps show...

    Rescue vs Self-Reliant

+1 What Dirty Dog said... A solo class would probably be the best for your current situation. Just make sure you take it from and instructor who actually dives solo regularly. Anyone can go through the course material, but real life examples will make your class so much more meaningful. Here...

Changing the recording interval on a Suunto Vyper

Be aware that increasing the sample recording frequency will decrease the number of dives you can store. I learned this the hard way after a week of diving shortly after setting the sample to every 10 sec and only having the last two dives of the trip available to download. More than every 60...

    Questions about photo editing software……..

You make way too much sense to be on the internet! :) Anything I can possibly add to this thread you said much better than I could have done. I also use Lightroom 4 and only shoot in RAW. I have yet to find a reason to upgrade to v5.
