Would you understand my hand signal?

The DM has no military rank and certainly has no authority to issue orders.

Tattoos, cyber-stalkers, and random chat: tales from a derailed feedback thread

Avatars were different back then, but yes. Can we search members in this new board format? If so, look for King Neptune.

Would you understand my hand signal?

I agree. I'd understand, but I signal it like Thal. I'd understand, but I signal it like Thal. Center of chest instead of left shoulder and tap instead of merely placing it there. I'd figure it out, but I hate to follow or to be followed. Unless we have to go single file, I...

Tattoos, cyber-stalkers, and random chat: tales from a derailed feedback thread

Well, they were from California..... but seriously, I don't know, I never met them. I had lots of interaction with them both on line and on the phone. They seemed quite normal to me. I like them both.

    PADI vs NAUI

Yes. Also, and more importantly, my insurance company will stand with me in court. That won't impress the jury after expert witnesses describe how poor those standards are. You'll be better off pointing to your agency's standards since every agency has higher standards than the RSTC.

Old PADI dive tables vs Newer PADI RDP

The RDP may have been developed in the mid 80s, but it was a couple of years later that PADI adopted and started selling it. The was an ABC news segment on it (20/20 if memory serves) around 1988 or 89 (I'm fairly sure it was 89) by John Stossel.

    PADI vs NAUI

You've obviously never read the standards of different agencies. There are huge difference from one to another.

Old PADI dive tables vs Newer PADI RDP

PADI adopted the RDP in the late 80s. Prior to that they used the US Navy tables.

    Page Counter

Dennis, I see the same thing. The page counter lies to us. You never know how many pages there are till you're near the end.

Saba- diving at sea level and then lodging at a higher altitude

You are correct about the altitude. On the other hand, lots of divers dive there every day and don't have any issues. I'm told DAN studied that issue on Saba and says it's OK. I haven't seen the study. I did spend a week diving there and am very glad I went.

    jet fin vs Rocket fin

Rocket & Jets are both make from rubber. They look somewhat alike. Rockets are one of the worst fins I've ever used. Jets are the best.

Which is heavier? 1lb of lead or 1lb of feathers?

The metric unit for weight is the rarely used newton.

need help with an identification please

That's dinner. In Florida, they're always in season (you do need a license and can't take egg bearing females).

    Use of hands when diving.

Seems to me it would be pretty difficult, if not impossible to cut fins off sharks if you didn't use your hands. I don't really know as I have never finned and discourage the practice.

Which is heavier? 1lb of lead or 1lb of feathers?

While there is a slight difference between buoyany of iron and lead, it's not enough for it to be a factor in your weighting. More likely reasons for the difference would be trapped air in the BC or the diver kicking up.

    NAUI or PADI

You can teach anywhere with either of those or any of a host of others. You will need PADI if you want to work at a PADI 5 star facility, but other than that location isn't what I would consider to be all that an important a factor. First, dive for quite a while and see if this is something...

confused about advanced open water (PADI)

Of course they are the exception, but they are not rare. They also take their business to operators who are more reasonable than the ones you feel exude competence. There are still divers who are very active with lots of experience and no certification. That's a totally different topic and...

confused about advanced open water (PADI)

If that was your point, I certainly did miss it. Maybe you should read your previous post. Your point seemed to be that classes today are better than classes in 1967. I missed that too, please point it out to me. That is not in dispute as far as I'm aware. Unless people are...

    Vintage 1950's Steels

Those are steel tanks with K valves. They probably have blow out plugs instead of burst disks, but they can be replaced with burst disks wgich are a great deal safer.
