How very cave-centric of you to think that only caves are hard core tech diving. For example, "regular trimix diving" the wrecks off Donegal, Ireland in 18' seas and current is not tiddlywinks. I don't foresee habitats rising in any sort of tide in open water tech diving.

The more dives you do beforehand the better your experience will be.

My kids were 6 and 2 when I started tech diving (they are now 34 and 30). It's all about being able to juggle time commitments (kids, wife, diving). It was unusual to see others of the same demographic but it can be done.
