Recommendations for UK diving September 2025

Most of the Charters along the South coast are just 'taxis' to get you to/from the dive site. They take no responsibility for your dive plan or execution. To be honest that applies throughout the UK. I'm based West Coast of Scotland where most diving is done by the local clubs, and English...

Auto Air inflator (AP Buddy Commando) swap to standard inflator (Scubapro)

I used a buddy Seaking BC for years with a ScubaPro inflator. Those AutoAir units will leak if they see one gran of sand, the ScubaPro inflator survived 3 months expedition diving without seeing fresh water. Those with AutoAirs all failed within a week.

Koh Lipe, Koh Phi Phi late October/early November 2026

Hi, I fly into Bangkok rather than Phuket. Get the early flight to Hat Yai than transit minibus to Pak Bara Pier for the high speed ferry to Ko Lipe, arriving around 14:00. I’ve always bought a combined ticket from Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport (MK) direct to Koh Lipe. There is a free transit...

    Dive Accident Insurance Limitations

The ISO is a Standard not legislation, but in Egypt (for example) their laws use the ISO as guidance for their laws. Each agency will have its own interpretation of what the ISO means. For BSAC our Ocean Diver qualification is EN 14153-2/ISO 24801-2 - 'Autonomous Diver' accredited. However, we...

Why is buoyancy more sensitive in shallow waters?

It’s all to do with boyle's law which should have been covered during your basic training.

    Koh Lanta + Koh Lipe Feb/Mar 2025

My first dive here in Oman, boat re-boarding was interesting as the wind had picked up whilst we were down. The skipper kept the engines in reverse to hold station. Should have got us to swim out away from the cliff. Pity we’re not meeting up on Koh Lipe.

    Insurance and Certification Agencies

DAN is not the ‘be all’. The OP explained why they made the suggestion. We BSAC provide substantial 3rd Party Liability insurance, for c£75/year, that includes member to member cover.

    Inappropriate customer

This type of behaviour is unacceptable within diving, in fact any industry. I’ve authorised the ending of BSAC memberships for these types of assaults.
