    I want to get narked

I second that the few times I've been properly narc'd the feeling instantly reminded me of being a kid at the dentist. PERSONALLY I don't notice it until about 140ft, though I'm sure testing would show effects start much shallwer. Some days when I try to do math, write a legible page of notes...

The Economics of Rebreathers: unused gas costs?

I made this several years ago when I first bought my CCR but never posted it.

    Dive Flag Violations

Tangential story time. One time I came up from a long shallow harbor dive (using a flag and a couple of lift bags) to find the harbormaster steaming mad, puttering around in his boat. He started yelling at me for blocking him out of his slip and said he had been waiting for me to surface. He was...

    Sidemount Bailout Config?

Wow haha didn't expect that strong a response but glad I asked. Now tell me about split fins and spare airs...

    Sidemount Bailout Config?

What do you all think of the system that uses a metal ring on the harness bungee and the upper boltsnap on the bottle sling cinched close to the tank neck? I haven't tried it but I'm curious after seeing a few very squared away divers using variations of this on their backmount CCR backplates...

Question Diving Computer for 11 year old

Will the kid be doing dives (or multiples) that even remotely approach any limits? He really doesn't need a computer if it's just shallow shore diving. But do carefully plan your dives and dive your plans. I did a lot of years of diving before I bought a computer. That said, shearwater is...

Skeleton Shrimp with Hatched Juvelines - Amed, Bali

Here in the northeast US there are small skeleton shrimp that colonize shallow structures like docks and dirty boat hulls. They're fun to watch, even just lying on the dock peering into the water. But whenever I clean boat hulls hundreds of skeleton shrimp attach themselves to my suit and gear...

    New Halcyon Fin (wtf?!)

Neat. Is there science behind any of the shape? Even if not, looks like a sturdy simple paddle fin which is probably as good if not better than most fins.

Shearwater Owners with AI, do you dive with a SPG?

No, but if a valve gets bumped on the boat or whatever and I forget to completely purge the reg then the pressure keeps the transmitter on and kills the battery.

    Shearwater CNS Metric

Here's what Shearwater itself has published on that question: Shearwater and the CNS Oxygen Clock - Shearwater Research For what it's worth people doing deep exploration diving will blow WAY past the limits that these computers recommend for CNS, surfacing with like 300% or much more. Not that...

Shearwater Owners with AI, do you dive with a SPG?

Yes I dive an SPG when/if I use my transmitter. I find the transmitter is frequently dead (out of battery) so I don't rely on it. If I leave it pressurized it stays on and drains the battery. Since I leave my doubles regs assembled on the tanks this happens quite often.

Question How does pressure increase with depth in water?

It was a fun and educational thread, it will be there in the search results for the next person or student to wonder the same thing. Kudos for learning something new, and for being cool enough not to make it an over-the-top argument like most people on the internet do these days.

DIR- GUE Tec1 with CCR in the making?

ROI really is questionable. You have to be diving trimix REALLY FREQUENTLY (or have limited helium access) for CCR to be a sound financial decision. The rebreather's hidden costs (expensive repair/maintenance/upgrades/necessary accessories) constantly eat cash (not to mention time). There are...
