    I'm still cold!

Hood - mine's 1.5 mm neoprene and it makes a huge difference. I'm sure booties make a big difference. And I wear a fleece inside my Lavacore. It traps the water, inhibits flushing, and the trapped water soon warms up. Counter intuitive - but how about wearing less? I had problems and was...

Malaria and Dengue in North Sulawesi?

I have been going to Manado and Lembeh for 20 years+. Dengue is the worry, not malaria - as many posters have said. Malaria medication - can have bad side effects, not least stomach disturbances (that's an understatement) which can ruin your diving holiday. And it is expensive. It is...

5-7 days - Woman traveling alone - Where to go???

Yes, there are direct flights from Singapore. Used to be Silk Air from Singapore but now I think it is Scoot. This is still part of Singapore Airlines. Yes, Lumbalumba will pick you up at the airport, any time. Email them with any questions. They will advise you on flights and anything else...

    Boat coat in North Sulawesi?

I feel the cold. Most of the boats in N Sulawesi are covered but once I got very chilled returning from a night dive in Lembeh in an open speedboat. So I just make sure I have a cover up - and then never use it - except on the plane! The Indonesians have a lovely word for cold - "dingin" -...

East Coast in early July - where to dive

Thanks Nishan. Will take a look at Pasikudah. I have been in touch with Randanu.

5-7 days - Woman traveling alone - Where to go???

Thanks Wingy. This has been my experience too. Some friendships are now into 20 years+. The dive world is a relatively small place, there is the pleasure of bumping into people again, catching up, and quickly settling in to the diving routine knowing what sort of diving they like.

5-7 days - Woman traveling alone - Where to go???

What about Lumbalumba outside Manado? You can dive both Bunaken walls and the muck and small reef sites on the Manado side. Personal service, dive guides have been with them for years and they look after you on the boat. Out on boat all day with 2 or 3 dives, lunch on the boat, toilet on the...

East Coast in early July - where to dive

We're off to East coast Sri Lanka in early July. Recommendations for dive operations? Comments on dive conditions, depths etc? Priority - dive safely and see fish and things, dive guides interested in the fish-life and environment. We had a really good time with Polhena Diving in the South a...

    Pleasure reef Islamorada 1-7-20

Oh no - nightmare resurrected. Monkey Shoals, St Kitts and Nevis. Under a coral outcrop, a disturbingly big green moray and the back half of a decent sized nurse shark. I don't mean that we could only see the back half, I mean there was only the back half left. So moray resting head on a...

Aqualung i200 Safety Stop On or Off

I had thought about what to do and have donated it to our dive shop. They can use it in their classes in the swimming pool where it is unlikely to do anyone harm. Thanks for the interest.

Aqualung i200 Safety Stop On or Off

Tanks DiveMalby. Clearly the i300 is different from the i200. I checked and re-checked - as said above, and showed to other people. My i200 most definitely shows the word ON when the Safety Stop is Off. I was so fed up I went back to my archaic Suunto. I was going to give my i200 away - but...

    North Sulawesi land excursions? (Manado/Bangka)

There is paragliding up in the highland SW of Manado. They land down on the coast. Tandem jumping. Friends have done it and enjoyed it, been there and watched it. Low cloud can cover the highland, so choose a clear day. Highland tour up to Tomohon is fascinating and hardly any tourists...

What to wear immediately after a dive?

Chilly - Speedo do tankinis. They have the full range in their shop in London. Beepbird - thank you so much for that. I loved the way the dress could be used as a seat cover in a car. Bonaire - truck left in the sun, hop in, pain of scalding as wet skin turns to steam, hop out, extensive...

Malaria and Dengue in North Sulawesi?

Don't you realise that the Haka came about from a plague of mosquitos? See previous thread about freak dancing to avoid mosquitos. Back to Bushmans (nearly wrote Bushmills). Came across that in Oz. Very good. Can't get it in the UK. But had overlooked getting it on Amazon. Thanks for that.

    Dive computers for small wrists

That reply should go into the Grumpy Old Divers Section. Marie, yes I see your point, but my arms just aren't long enough any more!

    First time to Indonesia- help?

Good luck with your trip. Scarf sounds like it could work. I wear a hood and it gives me at least another degree - or 20 minutes more comfort. Dan's trip sounds great. Visited the Amira a few years back when she moored in Lembeh Strait. Beautiful. It is on the bucket list.

    Lembeh unless....

I love Lembeh. Some of the resorts have pools where you can relax. It is not all muck diving. You have the opportunity to go to Tangkoko Nature Reserve and the highlands which are really un-touristy. You can waste a lot of time on travelling and multiple flights, what about no-fly/no-dive...

Malaria and Dengue in North Sulawesi?

Getting bitten in the room. People think they are safe in their room. But they opened the door when the walked in didn't they? Most ops we have stayed with have been diligent about mosquito nets. But if they are tied up during the day, check that you don't trap insects when you roll them...

Malaria and Dengue in North Sulawesi?

Yes - this sums it up. Don't think that mosquitos are only active at dusk onwards. Any time of day, particularly in the shady bit under the table. Use mosquito repellent and wear long trousers. Mosquitos punching through clothing? Oh yes, been there, seen it, felt the pain. Use repellent...

What to wear immediately after a dive?

I just bought a pair of hiking/sports shorts for this reason. And with shorts you don't need undie wear. I hate claggy bottoms. I am a fan of tankinis for diving. Quick to get bottoms off if need the toilet, easier for changing because in two halves. I roll the top up to get my midriff dry...
