What is the best way from New York to Manado?

Thanks. That's my preferred route from UK to Manado. Didn't know if it also worked flying west from NYC. What is the route prior to Singapore? For information - Scoot is still only operating Weds and Fris. The old SilkAir schedule also included Mons. Scoot say they are considering bringing...

What is the best way from New York to Manado?

Simple question, what is the best way from New York city to Manado, Sulawesi? Actually there are aspects such as cost, time, number of stops and airlines to take into consideration. A night at an airport is acceptable and may well make the journey more comfortable. I think one of the favoured...

Hyperbaric treatment for brain injury and strokes

Thank you for your comments. In the UK, Hyperbaric Therapy is little known or understood - except by those directly involved. I had a word with the guys running what I think is the only major decompression chamber in England, if not the UK. They were very positive about the benefits. But not...

Hyperbaric treatment for brain injury and strokes

Does anyone have any comments regarding hyperbaric treatment for brain injury and strokes? I had post concussion syndrome and still have some problems. There is nothing major on my MRI scan. I found accidentally that diving - just in a swimming pool - made me feel a lot better. Tinnitus...

Travel BCs jacket style - and sadly negative experience

Thanks. Landau - your comments make sense. Bolt-Snap - also thanks for your comment. Security of weight pocket is a major issue. You drop your weights and it is not good. The dive op have lost lead - not happy. And for some, the worst is the damage to the coral - and they're probably right.

Travel BCs jacket style - and sadly negative experience

Travel BC needed. Jacket style. Have tried wing and is not comfortable/efficient for my build. Have had a jacket style travel BC before and it was fine. It got a bit old so bought a new one of that make. Slightly different design and obviously cheaper build. Diving in the Maldives and even...

    Trip Report Dhigurah Boutique Beach

Lux Resort is completely separate from Dhigurah island apart from being able to walk there over the sand bar. They will charge you over $200 to get in - and this was what people said. Boutique Beach is not the only dive op on Dhigurah. The hotel has 6 rooms and provides a dive package...

    Trip Report Dhigurah Boutique Beach

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. I just love fanning the flames. Our plans for Indonesia have been busted three times. I understand your pain when you say "postponed" not cancelled.

    Trip Report Dhigurah Boutique Beach

So much depends on where you are travelling from, the airline, and of course the latest updates. These can appear and be applied with minimal notice, as has happened with some countries in Europe. Imuga - Maldives Immigration for the Maldives Traveller Health Regulation Form Suggestion -...

    Trip Report Dhigurah Boutique Beach

From the UK, not only did we need our Covid proof of vaccination, but also a QR code from filling out a Health Travel form on the Maldives government site and a negative PCR result. One of the factors that has to be taken into account is the airline. You have to be clear what the airline's...

    Underwater Magnifying Glass

I just buy cheap from Amazon. I searched on "Plastic Sheet Magnifier". I found 3 credit card size 3X magnifiers for £3.99. Also, possibly better for photography are the bookmark magnifiers which have a ruler scale along the edge. At least you can use it to give an idea of exactly how big...

    Trip Report Dhigurah Boutique Beach

Just returned from Boutique Beach Dhigurah. Diving was exactly as described for this location. Beautiful fish life from large down to lovely small stuff. Diving was well-organised, thoroughly briefed, very safety-conscious with good quality dive gear for hire. Rooms, food, service etc were...

    Underwater Magnifying Glass

To keep bulk to minimum I use plastic sheet magnifiers - the sort you can use when reading a book. The best one I have is the size of a credit card. Works remarkably well, costs very little and I buy 10 and give them to the dive guides. Also helpful for their grannies who can't afford...

Lombok and Bali Trip Oct - Nov 2021

Thank you for the photos, the scorpionfish and nudis were great. Diving in the local swimming pool just isn't the same! Just hope we can make it in 2022. Enjoy your diving.

Travel BCD Recommendation for a Petit Woman

I rented gear at first. The old Sherwoods fitted OK. Then there seemed to be a new generation and style. Nothing fitted. Right size, wrong shape. Most delightful experience was being garotted by the chest strap on a giant stride entry. I borrowed and tried everyone's and can only say one...

    RA Flight question

Remember - this is Indonesia. Advice about leaving plenty of time between flight changes is absolutely right. You can never have too much time. The classic is that the flight out from Singapore has been delayed by weather so it cannot arrive to pick you up, and when it does eventually arrive...

Shore diving and local culture advice

Some of the most surgey, currenty conditions are right there close to the shore. And if you are not experienced shore divers you will be amazed at how localised they can be. Startled buddies less than 2 ft away as you disappear like a rocket whilst they stay still.

My Research Notes from Planning Galapagos Trip

Late to this thread - or maybe early for actually being there. A very simple question - where/when/what are the warmest sea temperatures? I understand that Galapagos is not the warmest destination - islands in the ocean, of course they're not cosy warm. But someone mentioned diving somewhere...

    Booked !

My point was to support dive businesses anywhere with a show of the support in the form of interest. Also, to be aware of flexible travel arrangements including any that allow free change/free cancellation. As Indah says, for Indonesia this may not be any time soon, so need to check terms and...
