    Bali

In Asia along the coast, a large part of the local diet and food offered to guest has some derivation of seafood. Part of the culture. So after the Tsunami some Chinese have begun to avoid sea food for awhile at least.

    strobes

To mask the internal strobe, you can just use electrical black tape or whatever to block the light from coming out. Sometimes when the tape or mask somehow comes off, I just use my fingers to block it.

    probably a dumb question

Thanks for the corrections, not from that area so kind of guessed the spelling. I was wondering if it was a comb jelly (jellyfish).

    probably a dumb question

In asian waters, comb jellies typically live on some bubble coral. They look like tiny round brown disk stuck to the polyps. Been to perth jundalap and freemantle area, never got a chance to dive.

    Mabul or Kapalai?

I felt Kapalai has a better jetty to snorkel around. Tons of critters to see near the jetty, but I have never stayed there before. The coral life seems to be in better condition. The few times I was there, the water was clearer than Mabul too. Mabul has a few operators. SMART, Borneo...

    SMART Mabul Questions

When I was there a few years back, they gave me a lot of leeway. Long long bottom times, but I had to go with their departure schedule. When the resort was not so crowded, they gave my small group our own boat; schedules, bottom times... etc became even more flexible. I guess things...

    strobes

If you are into Macro you may not need all the power of a DS 125. It would be more useful to have a smaller more manuevarable strobe with infinite power settings. If you want to do wide angle, then the power becomes very handy. If you are just a casual "been there and done that" type, I...

    Bali

3000 km or about 2000 mile distance from the affected area in super rich waters would result in bare bones sinking to the bottom of the ocean in a very short time. Perhaps if somehow a "remanant" got caught on an oceanliner incased in a plastic bag and was dragged to Bali then maybe it would...

Bali - Tulamben & Nusa Penida Recent sightings?

Mola Mola generally appear when the waters become very cold. That season is around September. Tulamben, too many critters to go through. There are many kinds of nudibranchs around the lava rocks near mimpi resort. Should be able to see the resident schooling jacks at Liberty Wreck...

    help with Singapore

Water temperatures are very warm. If diving in Tioman area, I just jump in with my neoprene vest and shorts. Some may wear a lycra suit for protection. At the end of your work assignment, you should take the oppurtunity and travel around asia and do some diving. Perhaps go to Sipadan...

Yes it is a member of the snake eels. The color will match the background it hides in. I also have photos of this critter in red.

    What is this???

You can see a white version of this animal in my gallery. Typically comes out at night and stays near some kind of light source among darkness of night looking upwards, for example near a jetty. I think Helmut Debelius fish id book has a photo of this animal with a needle fish in its...
