It's an issue of QC. People sometimes get certified without meeting the performance requirements. Dive planning materials of all agencies that I've seen are insufficient. In my region, I get the impression that few divers meet WRSTC requirements as an autonomous divers as they lack the...
So I am a man, but with a young daughter (extremely attractive, that's not Papa's bias either). How would my daughter deal with this situation? While she's only 5, if her behavior from when she was in daycare is any indicator, she'd knee the guy in the nuts so hard his testicles fly out of...
But that's the reality of the industry. On most dive boats I've been on (exception, Washington and California), there's at least on dive who cannot assemble their scuba kit.
In vacation destinations, this has been normalized and you have crews setting up people's gear because either they can't...
I was thinking of a method involving a nailgun. The dive computer will never leave their wrist..... :poke::stirpot:
But if people are set to do things a certain way, it doesn't matter what they are told. I remember advising my OW students to be careful about buying used equipment at not much...
That's always been my understanding. I took the old fundies which was a recreational skills course. One needs proper recreational skills before acquiring technical skills. Most of the industry is content with poor recreational skills. GUE is one exception.
My biggest mistake was waiting until 380 dives and being an IDC Staff Instructor before taking fundies.
That was an incredibly cold shower.
Take it now. Don't worry about rec/tec passes, just go for the skills. You will become a solid diver so much faster this way.
EDIT: see next comment
We can see about 10 to 15 feet. I also give my students my own personal dive lights as I believe from a practical point of view a requirement for diving in the Puget Sound.
This guy was in amazing shape. He created a bit of a wake doing the navigation swim at the surface and just took off...
@nldunn
The most nervous of all of my students was a 6'5" 280 lb firefighter, a man who would break through walls to rescue someone in a burning building.
And he was afraid of the dark water.
He got over it, but my point is, if someone like that can be afraid of the water, no one should feel...
OH COME ON! That one review about the DM not carrying the customers gear, INSTANT DISQUALIFICATION! :p:poke::stirpot::outtahere:
Seriously, I go straight to the 1-star reviews and be entertained by the crazy stuff people complain about. So far it has never been about safety (which if there...
I'm neutral here, but isn't Florida known for possibly ripping currents? We get some ripping currents here in Washington state, but it seems the Florida sun has fried the brains of all the divers down there, as we don't dive Deception Pass at peak exchange (our brains are waterlogged instead...
Let's not get too excited. The OP is a fairly new diver, decided to post something for fun. Unfortunately people overreacted. Hopefully the OP will not be intimidated to post in the future, but learn to ignore the SB curmudgeons. Dive safe, dive often, and have fun.
What light is that a knockoff? The thing is about the knockoffs, is that they are copies with similar nearby factories where workers get swapped. So they become in essense the same product.
@hsakols
So when you take your course and are in the pool, one of the things that you need to get a handle on is the affect of gas in the dry suit versus your BCD/wing. Practice maintaining a constant depth with dumping gas from your BCD/inflating your dry suit and vice versa. The pool is...
