    DSMB Requirements

If you don't teach your open water course properly weighted (including weight distribution) and neutrally buoyant/trimmed, I'm not surprised.

    DSMB Requirements

It has been added by most agencies as optional, which is unfortunate, but due to the fact that most instructors are incapable of deploying a DSMB while neutrally buoyant. So instead it is inflate an SMB at the surface. I call that the "hurry up and blow up the safety sausage before that jet...

    DSMB Requirements

seems a little silly to me, when it is so easy to attach a spool to a DSMB. And you can change spools/DSMBs depending on the depth/conditions.

Sounds like open water courses  :p  :stirpot:

Error A Story of Poor Judgment

I was referring to WRSTC members. The number of new divers taking rec1 from GUE is likely miniscule each year. Contact them. I would prefer if the industry moved that way, as I believe it would result in healthier retention rates. When I see mills, their retention rate is abysmal. The more...

Error A Story of Poor Judgment

The fact that other than NASE and RAID, there's no true movement to teaching neutrally buoyant and trimmed. Once that happens, then how to make it fun, how to have games. My daughter is 4 and she's almost got the alphabet in 2 languages and counting up to 100. But it has to be a game. There...

Error A Story of Poor Judgment

Have you noticed on FB when people recommend dive instructors it is more of a reflection of how much they liked the person. You want the best reviews? Tell jokes, be relaxed, have fun, and always, always pass the student. Remember that people take up scuba to have fun. The vast majority...

Error A Story of Poor Judgment

It SHOULD be the entire spirit of dive instruction: to introduce and guide people to safely enjoy the underwater world. But should is a dangerous word. There are many shoulds/should nots in this world. I think the industry could do a heck of a lot more for dive safety. In my area, there was...

Error A Story of Poor Judgment

They already do that with having objective performance standards and despite taking market share away from other agencies, no one has followed suit. No one will unless there is a financial benefit (which includes avoiding financial losses, like lawsuits).

LOL. I aged out when I became an instructor at 45! I lasted far longer than the average instructor (1.5 years).

DIR- Generic Any GUE instructor teaching Fundamentals in sidemount?

Your experiences are not false, you comment is just not universally true. I have also dived with other GUE divers in sidemount recreationally.

PADI Deep Diver course- gas management

Well some of you sure complain about it a lot. I have yet to meet a PADI instructor working for a shop that isn't under pressure to get the class over with. So yeah, the instructor going above and beyond is a rarity. I've lamented with other SDI instructors that few add appropriate...

PADI Deep Diver course- gas management

LOL, and why is there so much PADI bashing? Is it due to the overwhelming percentage of good instructors? LOL

PADI Deep Diver course- gas management

Doesn't conflict whatsoever. I showed what instructors need to teach. And it shows that it is a fluff course. The industry as a whole could provide a lot more value than what it does.

PADI Deep Diver course- gas management

It would be nice if you would ever offer anything of value like corrections. I listed the performance requirements. That's what instructors have to teach to.

PADI Deep Diver course- gas management

I'll do it for you. Deep Dive OnePerformance Objectives By the end of Deep Dive One, student divers should be able to, with a buddy and withinstructor guidance as appropriate: 1.Plan and manage gas use, including determining turn pressure, ascent pressure and reserve pressure. Establish no...
