Note to Self... STOP Losing Gear!!

My father and I scoured our local dive hole after his weight buckle snapped and he lost $100 of coated lead. We eventually found it, but I cannot imagine either of us not spending many hours looking for something as valuable as a camera.

Weird -- Dive Lights as Weapon Mounted Lights?

Yes, where I live there is no good reason to own a hand gun, and no reason other than hunting to own a rifle. I guess there is a context problem there.

How security-minded are you when on the internet?

I have decent security on my machine. I have the standard spybot+avg free security setup, I use noscript to block all unnecessary scripts, and I browse smart. If I am doing something that with "questionable" security implications I use my linux partition or a virtual machine.

What tire for a HOG rig?

If your local university has a student run bike shop there is a pile of flat inner-tubes waiting for a new home.

    Cylinders in cars

Assuming the seats have those mount hook things (I have no Idea what to call them) you could go to a junk yard and get some, then you can make a removable rack that does not damage the car. As for a rack material, you would probably want the lightest material you can afford, so aluminum would be...

    The Diving Lifestyle (for Parents)

My parents dove while they dated, it was their thing. For a honeymoon the dove for 2 out of three weeks on grand camen and coz. Then 2 years later we (I am a triplet) were born. So, after an 18 year SI my father got me certified and we are diving again. Unfortunately my mother will never be able...

    What's with sidemount?

Does that mean we can consider sidemount divers SCUBA hipsters? But really, I am a firm believer that as long as you are not hurting anybody (or yourself) "because I can" is a perfectly acceptable reason for doing something.

Glue/adhesive to repair torn rubber part of fin

If you use a large bike tube repair patch on each side you should have a pretty good bond. I used a bike patch on my father's rubber drysuit boot and it has held for the last 40 dives he has done.

    Scuba Caribe and Grand Palladium

Palladium addicts actually came up when I was doing a research at work. One of the processes we are working on takes palladium out of a certian mineral and concentrates it.

Piston vs Diaphragm OR MK25 vs MK17

I am also a diaphragm guy, I dive a Mk.17 with an A700. I dive cold water, or according to their classification "Extreme Cold Water". I can not see myself using a piston reg as they are not sealed, even if I didn't need the cold water protection in the "water" I dive in I would be afraid of...

Weird -- Dive Lights as Weapon Mounted Lights?

The Canadian in the room is wondering why you would need a light on a weapon?

    Danglies

My father likes to keep his pony reg dangling, it irritates me to no end. I eventually put a clip on his bc and "fix it" for him when we are at the descent line if he leaves it. One day he will do it himself.

What do you expect from other Divers?

I expect a ride to the site, my dive payed for and breakfast.... well, I only have dove with my father thus-far, so based on past experience. When I eventually expand my diving horizons (though at this point I really have no reasons to) I would expect my insta-buddy to be courteous, to...

    PADI Advanced Diver Tests

I have an "acquired" digital copy of the manual on my other computer. I can send you a link if you wish, but it will have to be after I get home (after Canadian thanksgiving).

    Real-life Equipment Failures

Ice diving my inflator froze closed after I put in some air at about 5m. Then my buddy could not come down due to a line tending problem, then when I tugged to have slack let in nothing happened. So I sat there waiting to come in when they finally started pulling in. Just under the hole the line...

    Hot Water Suit

My last co-op position I was working on a project with a 1.25 Million dollar operating budget, I have to get out of the mindset that $1000 is not nothing. You are also right, that may be overkill. Then again, putting a temperature control on the heater honestly would not be hard or expensive...

    Hot Water Suit

Seems like a very risky idea. It is not that the idea is bad, it is just that without some form of discrete temperature you risk burning the diver. A good modification to the system would be to get a couple of industrial temperature controls (a good company would be "process engineering" or...

    Ethanol Killing Outboard Motors

If you want to test your gas for water presence you can do it fairly easily. get some Epsom salts (MgSO4-7H2O) and dry them. This can be done in an oven, with a torch, even in a microwave. You just must ensure the residue is completely "dry" . The shape and colour will change when it is dry...
