    Yet another drysuit thread.

Does anyone have experience with USIA suits, the custom made part really interests me, but I am worried about the fact I had not heard of them before today.

Six Divers Trapped on Sea Bottom

Good point. I was just thinking of the diving vessels I have seen with escape bells or whatever they are called. I shall wait for more information before laying judgment.

    Yet another drysuit thread.

Many of the people I have dove with have sort-of turned me away from the fusion due to their problems with bunching and limited flexibility. It is also above my price range. As the cheapest I can get it here is 2K with the sport skin I believe.

    Yet another drysuit thread.

It has come to the time in my diving career as an Ontario fresh water diver that I must come out of the cold and drive dry. I did 50 dives this spring / summer in my 7mm farmer john and I have met my tolerance for deep cold dives. My options based on research and talking with a few shops (so...

Six Divers Trapped on Sea Bottom

It makes you wonder what kind of safety regulations if any were being enforced in the area for dive vessels and divers. It is sad to lose 6 people because of shoddy equipment.

    Malaria pills or not?

A friend of my parents got malaria while teaching in Africa. She describes her almost yearly episodes as "the worst flu or her life". She did not take malaria medication, but suggests it to everyone now.

    DIY gas sensors?

Well, CPVC can be good up to 500PSI, or one could just get SS piping to make the chamber. The only thing we will need to figure out is how the sensor senses. There could be more inference from other gasses at higher pressures. Good idea though. If reg LP is enough to measure we could do away...

    DIY gas sensors?

Here is an interesting article I found on CO sensors. I also found some electrochemical type sensors from a company called Figaro Sensors. They do not post prices unfortunately, which means they will probably want a bulk order. I have found in the past saying you want a sensor for evaluation...

    DIY gas sensors?

Here is a flow diagram I was thinking up. The Purge system for the CO chamber would probably be the hardest part to plumb, so if the chamber could open the power of one's breath might suffice. I included it because it seems the sensor you found requires an almost stationary air flow which means...

    DIY gas sensors?

Nice. For the CO sensor you could consider putting the sensor in a PVC housing (to which you can easily tap in fittings) to allow for calibration. As for splitting the gas feed it seems like you will need a much lower flow rate over the CO sensor compared to the O2 sensor, so you could use 2...

    DIY gas sensors?

I should show you some pictures from my DIY O2 unit. I have in a UK hard case with the flow meter panel mounted (plastic panel) in the lid and the meter securely held in foam. I built it with the Oxycheq El Cheapo 2 kit. Plumbing high pressure gas is something I have some experience with. Look...

    DIY gas sensors?

Helium is not very easy to detect. Unlike Oxygen which is reactive, helium cannot be sensed using a galvanic method. The easiest way to measure He% is to use thermal conductivity, and that requires very very precise temperature measuring and high quality materials with constant thermal...

Whats a good Nitrox capable dive computer?

The only problem (big problem) with that computer is that it is not compatible with modern computer architecture, so no dive downloading.

New HOG 23lb Single Tank Wing

Sweet. I would also like to add the only thing I did not like about my 32# was that the hose was round and short. The red is cool as well.

ideas and suggestions on the design of the "perfect" dive computer

Well, the idea seems alright, but my only concern is that A. Phones run out of battery very quickly compared to a dedicated dive computer and B. Every phone I have owned, and every Iphone user I know (I hate apple products) has crashed their phone on multiple occasions. That aside, I notice...

Weird -- Dive Lights as Weapon Mounted Lights?

Agenda? Nah, it is just matter of fact where I live. Gun ownership is perfectly legal with the exception of automatic, bulpup, and small handguns. It is just that in my experience people who own guns here hunt and / or are viewed as (sorry for the phrase) are rednecks. I hunt and fish, and I can...

Severe sinus infection a few days after diving. Tank? Regs?

Well, if your regs are not environmentally sealed it is possible some bio-matter got in an made its way into your throat. A metal surface is fairly hostile to bacteria, especially if there is not moisture, so it is fairly unlikely the tank had anything to do with it. The most likely scenario is...

Whats a good Nitrox capable dive computer?

I have a SubGear XP-10, it performs its job, has decent options, and most importantly connects to the computer using standard IRDA. So unlike the Zoop or Oceanic V2/3 you do not need to spend $100 on a data cable to connect it to the computer, you only need to spend $20 if your computer does not...

what to wear under your wet suit?

I wear underarmour compression shorts. They keep my in place, stay flat, and dry quickly after. I once made the mistake of wearing nothing under my 7mm farmer john, lets say it got pinched during the 500m surface swim back and I was not a happy camper.

Weird -- Dive Lights as Weapon Mounted Lights?

No, having a rifle to fend off a bear is reasonable, I just thought that would fall under hunting.
