If you don't mind the drive, go down to Venice ( contact Jamie on the Aristakat ) and practice for sharks' teeth down there....It's considered a 'low viz' dive, 1' to 4', depth 28' to 30'.......Give you a chance to get a 'feel' for what to look for and low viz conditions.......
Three things; 1) Was pulling a port hole off an old ship and looked up to see an old dolphin a few feet away watching me...2) Diving off Ft. Jefferson (Keys) and found a clump of silver coins sticking out of the sand.....3) Solo diving in a cave and found two dead divers, waaay back where they...
....Same.....Any dive, any reason, any time....Even if it's just a 'gut' feeling......If they don't pay attention, I leave them......W/O any remorse !!!!.....
I use the one that is last (4th pic).....Majority of my diving is solo, but the light is so dim ( just enough to read gauges ) that it never bothers 'buddies".......
Although I'm comfortable w/both systems, ( But wish this country would go completely metric...So much better system, simple 'base' 10, just like our currency !! ) I have family in the EU that comes here to dive caves....I use the OMS dual system SPG's and wear two identical computers, one set to...
Go to 'ebags'.com....Military backpacks....Made better, especially the zippers, different sizes, more compartments, better designs/lay-outs and less expensive.....
Only way to know if you have a transmitter problem or bad batteries ( and sometimes you may get 3-4 that have been sitting on a shelf for years ) is to send unit back to Suunto, for testing or try several batteries....I use to have a Suunto Vytec DS.....Never had a problem w/it.....Just didn't...
Analog, using the digital compass drains batteries faster...Similar to using the backlight too much, eats the battery up......A good 'fast-swing' compass in a wrist bungee mount....You'll navigate more accurately......
Go over to Cave Diver's forum.....There are several woman divers there, several of whom are instructors......Ask TracyN about the weird 'stuff' she found growing in the back of one of the caves a few weeks back !!!! ;O !!!!
Did it a few years ago...Interesting dive......You'll be surprised when you do it.....Won't spoil it and tell you why........Drysuit is a DEFINITE !!!!!.....Water is COLD !!!!
Cave-ins while cave diving.....Had a small one several years back, was able to dig/push it out of the way....Never thought about it until it happened, now it's always in the back of my mind !!!
If you try the set up shown by diversteve, regularly ck the 'pins' that the bungee goes under....They are spring loaded, the springs are thin and corrode easily....Keep them clean and greased and they'll be OK......
