    Ansell Pt Dive Incident

Well, I had my follow-up appointment with the doctor today and his opinion is pretty much what JB said above. The symptoms I experienced were "textbook" examples of hyperventilation syndrome and the arterial blood gas confirms. The only symptoms of DCS that I had are, unfortunately, also...

Quite possibly. I don't think I was any more dehydrated than usual, but I generally drink too much coffee and not enough anything else. :coffee:

    Ansell Pt Dive Incident

Hi JB, Thanks for the response. I don't know how I forgot to mention it in my earlier post, but they did do the arterial blood gas test, and the doc said it clearly showed that the CO2 levels were very low. In addition the symptoms you describe are a perfect match for what I experienced. And...

Ansell Point Incident - March 31st

Hi All, As reported in the NorthShore News a few days ago, there was a diving incident at Ansell Point on March 31st. I am the diver mentioned in the article. A thread about the incident has already been created in the "Accidents and Incidents" section, and can be found here, but a number...

    Ansell Pt Dive Incident

I'm not 100% sure that deprivation was the word that he used, but the basic idea was that my CO2 levels were too low, presumably as a result of hyperventilation. Wikipedia's hyperventilation page describes it pretty well, including a list of symptoms that match fairly well with what I...

    Ansell Pt Dive Incident

The night I arrived at the hospital I received only normobaric oxygen. At that point it was believed that I did not have DCS. The HBOT treatment began the following day when the paresthesia persisted and it became apparent that I did have DCS. Yes, he did mention that there was a good chance...

    Ansell Pt Dive Incident

Alright here's the full story. On the evening of March 31 my buddy and I went for a dive at Ansell Pt, my first time at the site. I had been warned that the hike up from the water to the parking lot was particularly nasty, but decided to go anyway. The dive itself was fairly deep with at...

    Ansell Pt Dive Incident

Hi all, The diver in the article was me. As StuartT pointed out, the article is just guessing at some of the details. I had an "undeserved" hit, at least as far as profile went. I've been meaning to write a full post describing the incident but have been putting it off. Later today I'll try...

Possible PFO- would you still get certified? with what precautions?

I attended the same lecture presented by Dr. Harrison as DaleC this past weekend, and his summary fits with what I recall except on one point. (With the same disclaimer that any errors should be attributed to me, not to Dr. Harrison!) As I recall it was not technical diving that was...

    April 10/11 ... Annapolis/Sea Dragon

Just to be clear, the Sea Dragon is a charter dive boat based out of Horseshoe bay, not a wreck! Although now that they have a new boat I'm not sure if it's still called the Sea Dragon. The Annapolis is an old destroyer that they're intending to sink soon as an artificial reef.

    Kelvin Grove Sunday the 7th

The parking lot has five (six?) spots designated for guests. These are limited to three hours, although I wouldn't worry too much if you went a little beyond that. We've been taking our vehicles right down to the cul-de-sac at the bottom, unloading our gear, and then taking the vehicles back...

    Water temperature

Wow, I had no idea. Somehow I thought things didn't get that cold until a lot farther north. Guess I better bring out some warmer undergarments if I plan to dive there this August.

Good thing you mentioned it, I hadn't even thought of that. I should be there on Saturday.

    Water temperature

20 degrees? That doesn't sound right. 52 degrees F is warm for Vancouver which would make the East coast right at the freezing point. At least I hope that isn't right, because I'll be visiting the Halifax area this August and, well, brrr.

    Thickness of Wet Suit

A drysuit is strongly recommended but there are certainly a few out there who still wear a wetsuit, some even do it year-round. I think it depends a lot on personal cold tolerance though. I moved here in August and toughed it out in a 8/6 semidry for a while, but had to move to a drysuit by...

February 27 at Porteau Cove Wall

We tried to get there at the end of December, but the last section of the road was blocked off. You could still get there if you were willing to do a long walk or swim, but it wouldn't be a lot of fun.
