I love my Go travels and they are fast and powerful when I need it as they suit my style of a smaller faster flutter kick. They are also easy to frog kick in which I do 90% of the time and good "feel" of the blade for back kick.
One possible issue is as the foot size goes down the blade size...
I have to disagree with that. I hike often on the mountains near my house and almost always see groups woefully unprepared (no water, food, map or compass for an 8 hour hike that is out of cell phone coverage after the first 45 minutes)
The local search and rescue group is constantly pulling...
PADI Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving - I really enjoyed this book, especially the section on Marine biology. Used prices on ebay as low as $5 (but also as high as $160 ....)
Books on marine life for wherever you dive. I've got a collection of these I refer to often.
And I second the...
From a guide on my first dive with my new camera:
Get the camera close to the subject, then closer until it is too close, then closer still - now take the photo
From my Advanced instructor:
If I give you the OK sign and you're not 100% OK, don't lie to me and give an OK back.
The big requirement for current is a fin that is easy enough to kick that you never need to stop kicking to rest. In current you need to keep kicking to not lose ground.
I am an ex-competitive swimmer and can kick very fast, but switching to a fin with a somewhat smaller blade made a big...
Former swim instructor here. Technique is equally important to breath holding ability. Make sure you are perfectly steamlined it can make a big difference.
I definitely use less air in warm water (my AI computer lets me track this)
Switching drysuit and Undergarments to a 3mm, losing the hood and gloves and around 18 lbs of lead along with lighter smaller fins just makes ever thing easier.
Plus I don't tend to swim around as much - as on average...
Phocea sends you from their shop in PDC to their shop in Coz - via ferry and taxi. Then you walk across the street in Coz to their boat. I’ve done it a few times.
Pro: all 1 price and you get escorted the whole way.
A more independent traveller could just arrange the ferry tickets and taxis...
Here's the way I think about Rescue:
If I were to get into some sort of accident / incident / trouble / distress on a dive, would I want my buddy to be Rescue trained?
I think the answer is always: Yes!
I think every diver should take rescue. In the same way I think everyone who does any...
I'd aquaseal and sew a tape covering over the exposed edge. Helps to prevent fraying and wear.
And of course "measure twice and cut once" or even leave it an inch long the first cut and then retry it on.
Depending on your profile it could be normal.
The 2' at 6m is required if you ascend at the computers max ascent rate directly form 39m to 6m. But if instead you ascend much slower than that - stopping to look at critters along the way - the deco obligation can clear because of your slow...
Another way to get a free flow.
Don't rinse your gear well. Over time a large salt crystal builds up between the purge button and the diaphragm on the second stage putting pressure on the diaphragm and causing a free flow.
Solution - rinse your gear well in fresh water after each day's...
Just updated my Eon Core from a PC. Easy and painless though slow.
Took a look at the latest Suunto App on the iphone and confirmed I can edit settings on the Eon from the phone., I was hoping for a little more control than was available in DM5 but it appears to be the same - though more...
The manual also says you can customize the views/display with the Suunto APP - no more DM5 needed for that. In fact DM5 is not mentioned at all!
I think I'll give the app a try to see if I can customize my views a bit more. (Still planning to use Mac-Dive IOS for my actual log though)
Interesting that it lists just one version. I wonder if the previously STEEL only features (Buhlman algorithm) will now be available on the core?
EDIT - found my answer - No. But they have updated the CORE manual to version 3.0. The downloadable one looks a bit cleaner and clearer than the...
I love my ScubaPro Go fins without boots at all in the tropics! And they are very light to pack.
At home I'm a cold water dry suit diver. So no hood, no gloves, no boots is part of the joy of tropical diving for me. Plus the water isn't the color in my profile photo :-)
We have a similar situation in Canada having to send many goods to the US for warranty work. I've had a good and a bad experience with this - neither scuba related.
Good: the manufacturer sent me a return shipping label within minutes of contacting them via website chat. They took care of all...
Travel BCs can be half the weight of regular BCs and just as important can be stored compactly in your luggage.
My Aqualung Dimension, takes up at least double the room in luggage as a Scubapro Hydros. The stiff hip belt really doesn't fold at all. It's great for placing the weight of the tank...
