It's not just the brand and algorithm but the conservative setting.
I dive a Suunto Eon Core set at the default. One of my favourite buddys dives a Shearwater Peregrine which is set to high conservatism. She always runs out of no-deco time first.
Another buddy sets his Suunto Eon Core to a...
Tubbataha was amazing, I saw something new on every dive. Worth whatever you can afford.
I was on the Infiniti which was a great boat and crew. Highly recommended.
In a good streamlined position with a good kick that will just slow you down and waste effort. The hands are very inefficient compared to the fins.
If it actually speeds you up, you need to work on your kick technique or possibly fin choice.
For the same reasons why we don't want our students...
Love my Atomic B2 which includes a ball swivel and a slightly longer, very pliable hose. Much more comfortable than my previous reg, it’s miflex hose was significantly less flexible than the rubber hose on the Atomic
For a better time/score:
Get as streamlined as possible - arms straight out in front, hands together. Look at videos of competitive swimmers as they push off the wall for examples.
If you have different fins available give them each a test run of 200m or so to see which works best. For me my...
PADI call this "Dive Theory" - I've not done the SSI Science of Diving but I'm sure both cover similar topics.
PADI Dive Theory: About the Course
Dive Theory will dramatically expand your understanding of dive physics, physiology, equipment, decompression theory and dive planning.
SSI science...
I dive the Hydros and love it.
Plusses:
monoprene straps and backplate coating are very sticky and make it very stable in water. It does not slip and no crotch strap is needed.
Weight pockets very secure and never release accidentally
Inflator very easy to add tiny amounts of air
Minus...
I was recruited by a Marine Biology professor at a local university as a diver for one of her studies when she found out I was taking my PADI dive master. Mostly because she knew I was a strong swimmer, calm in the water and easy to work with - she had never seen me dive, but we trained together...
Either the Suunto Eon Core or SW Peregrine are great computers. Both are have easy to read, underwater screens and have good easy to use interfaces. I particularly like the Peregrine's "Safety Stop Complete" display
I'd avoid the Suunto Zoop/Vyper just because the interface is poor. I have a...
No experience with any of these - but aside from fit, I'd also check which has the widest field of view when wearing it. When I was choosing a mask I found the field of view varied greatly and from the contenders that fit well I chose the widest field of view.
Now I'm more likely to see the...
Good choice on the name patch! This is what they say when you select it:
Enter what you want embroidered onto the badge (check your spelling ) and what National flag, or a simple picture* if any.
*Note any picture will be a maximum of 8cm x 8cm fine detail and shading is not possible. Colours...
Just dove a demo Atomic B2 from my LDS. That was the quickest sale since I was looking at kittens at the animal shelter and the worker there asked "Would you like to hold one?"
Breathed super easy and the ball swivel on the second stage was jsut so much more comfortable than my current reg...
I've owned a Hydros and an AquaLung Dimension which has some similar features to the Exotek including the "Surelock" weight pockets and wrapture harness
Hydros
Plusses
- weight pockets easy to insert and don't fall out
- rubber harness is very sticky - does not shift around
- comfortable...
I'm pretty sure that is for replacing and installing valves in existing valve ports. Adding new valve ports will add significantly to the cost.
See the section on "Relocating Valves" $110 each.
The alternate "Ninja" pockets are just a little too small for my hands to easily get in and grab things from them.
Other than that I love mine. The monoprene shoulder straps and back pad keep it firmly in place without a cumber bund or crotch strap no matter what underwater acrobatics I do.
OK - a different direction here, if you are willing to not dive a BP/W
By far the most comfortable system I've used is the Aqualung Dimension back inflate BCD. The shoulder straps and hip belt are constructed like a hiking backpack allowing you to distribute the weight transfer to your body...
