    Question Electricity question

Search Amazon for Universal Travel Adapter and you’ll find several choices for about $25. They can plug into any outlet in the world and have several USB charging ports and one pass through plug. I’ve used mine on all 7 continents just fine. I plug my phone, E-Reader, watch, camera, tablet and...

Wrist mounted computer (not big and square), that has large(r) text...?

I guided a diver who had set her Teric to large pink numbers. It was very easy to read from several feet away. I was also impressed with the display on another diver’s Suunto ocean.

    My back surgery...

I’m just happy that the Chairman’s back has recovered to the point that this thread is about electrical code.

    Carrying a pointer stick

Mine is still hanging on the shop display wall. It is secure and streamlined there. Don’t like the things. That said I had a guide in Fiji who used one effectively to point out a multitude of truly tiny critters. It was much easier to spot the critter following the extended line of the pointer...

    Where to go first?

Club Med Turks and Caicos. Excellent diving. The boat departs right from the resort. Lots to do topside between dives. Try the trapeze at the included circus school. Or tennis lesson or sailing. Or take a short walk to the puppy rescue place and for a small donation take a puppy for a walk...

Question Suunto Eon Steel Black Safety Stop

Actively check. Otherwise how do you know you did the stop? Maybe you were at 6.1m. Maybe it was only 1 minute. Here in the murky water I can’t always accurately tell my depth without looking at my computer. Nor am I that good at estimating elapsed time. The Eon has a nice clear by the...

Info Should you look for a Good diver or a Good-Natured diver for your next trip buddy?

I’ve done liveaboards and resort trips solo several times always sharing a room or cabin. Look for someone who doesn’t snore! On one liveaboard each of my two cabin mates handed me earplugs. Not much sleep that week.

Minimum required training to dive to 30m (100ft) with Padi

In addition to many boats requiring Advanced for certain dives, some guided shore dives may require AOW. My shop offers many guided shore dives that require AOW or equivalent due to depths, currents etc. We have others more beginner friendly. AOW gives students 5 more dives with an instructor...

    Info Aqualung Financial Troubles

I’d ask your preferred local dealers how easy it is for them to get Aqualung service kits currently. Anecdotally I’ve heard they are in very short supply here in BC.

    Question Shopping for new fins

Fins have a lot of personal preference involved. So take my and any other suggestions with several grains of salt. I’ve tried several types with my Drysuit and settled on Scubapro Seawing Gorillas. They are easy to don and doff and stiffer than regular seawings. I find it easy to feel where...

    New computer AI dilemma

I’ve had air integration for 6.5 years on my Suunto Eon Core. In that time I’ve had to replace the battery on the transmitter once. I’ve also had to replace my SPG once, replace the spool on my spg once, and replace leaking o-rings on my spg spool or hose 3 times. So 1 AI issue and 5 SPG...

Competitive swimmers out there - can u frog kick?

Competitive breaststroke here. Took me a long time to get used to pushing with the bottom of my feet/fins in frog kick instead of the sides of my feet/ankles in breaststroke. To me the key was fins stiff enough that I could feel their position and what edge I was pushing with.

Bottom temps here are 6-13 C. I wear Nike hyper warm tights and a medium thick merino sweater underneath.

One Piece or Two Piece Drysuit Undergarment?

Here at least the one or two piece options are about the same price. One piece can also overlap quite a bit and you’ll need good add weight to compensate for the extra fabric. I always recommend the one piece if the sizing works for you. And the Arctic is quite indestructible. Mine has over...

What to do with a runaway BCD inflator

In my original certification this was definitely not taught. Possibly because it was 1979 and we were using horse collar/ Mae West type BCDs with no inflator hose. We had a choice or oral inflation or a CO2 cartridge inflator. New BCDs with inflator hoses and integrated weights were...

    Eon core battery question

Max battery life for the core depends on your brightness setting, 14 hours on Max brghtness 19 hours on Default brightness 27 hours on Low brightness Mine was bought when they first came out, has over 600 dives and still charges to these levels. I’ve never gone more than 4 dives without giving...

Taveuni: Paradise vs. Taveuni Dive Resort vs. Nakia

Just returned from Taveuni Dive Resort. Our group of 16 booked the entire resort and did 3 dives daily and an additional night dive one evening. Accommodations were great, but I can confirm no Air Conditioning - which was fine for the week we were there in Fijian Winter. We had 8 divers and 2...
