    Modularized Training vs all-at-once

The difference, for me, is that for technical/cave training modules are designed to incrementally add to a diver's envelope -- deeper in the cave, deeper on the wall, etc. -- but we're talking about divers that are, for the most part already fundamentally competent and are, diving within limits...

    Molex Connectors

I'm building a little cell-checker pressure pot. As planned, it gives me the option of either using a separate black box with three 0-200 mV voltmeters or, using a different cable, plugging into the rebreather head and reading voltages on my handset. Looking for a (hopefully) easy source for...

HELP! Need advice (quick) about DIN adapters

I would be floored if you need to bring your own DIN inserts.

HELP! Need advice (quick) about DIN adapters

That excerpt is not about yoke regs. M26 is a European thing. In Europe, Nitrox tanks and regs are M26, which is like DIN but a different diameter. Using a yoke first stage on a din valve is simple. It just takes a little threaded insert into the tank valve that costs about 5 bucks. I'm sure...

    Current Water Temperature

84 on my Teric today on all 3 dives. Colder on the surface interval than in the water.

Heading there tomorrow. I'll shoot you an update.

    TDC - 3 computer

Ross is the guy behind Multi-Deco dive planning software/app. He didn't create the algorithms, but he wrote one of several dive planning software packages that implement them for dive planning. Without getting into details, Ross was a party to some interesting and testy discussion threads on...

How to restore a Scubapro Mark VII Honker

I'm confident I will never work on one of these, but this is really interesting stuff and, for me, the best part of SB. Great work. Thanks @rsingler

    Please Don't Mishandle the Sealife!

Meh. Many folks are not comfortable snorkeling. I've been to both, many times, with little kids, grandparents and folks that get seasick snorkeling. Stingray City was a not always a good option for the group because of that, but they had fun at the Sandbar. I agree that it is a goat rope...

    Fear Into the Abyss

Dive within your comfort level. This is supposed to be fun. My wife had a similar fear on wall dives. If you want to challenge yourself with the abyss, do it incrementally and with buddies you trust and gradually build confidence. Pushing 5% beyond your boundary is fine, but gritting your...

    Loop Volume Question

If that were the explanation, it would be present at all phases of the dive, not just on deco. I can hang out at a constant depth when not offgassing all day and maintain PO2 simply by adding a little O2. My scrubber is not adding inert gas to the loop in any meaningful quantity. Edit: Plus...

Discuss: gas analyzer before second Shearwater?

I bought an O2 analyzer pretty early on, before doing my TMX training anyway. Like everything, it depends on the kind of diving you do, whether you have access to a good analyzer belonging to someone else, etc., but I sure would rather use mine that whatever might or might not be on the boat...

    Loop Volume Question

Yes, that's how I notice it most easily as well. I'm on a stop adding nothing but O2 periodically yet loop PO2 keeps dropping. Ipso facto, there is inert gas being added to the loop by my offgassing. It isn't coming from anywhere else. It's a significant volume and does impact loop volume...

    Cell dating question

@rddvet, does the cell have a date of manufacture on it or the packaging? Just curious.

    Cell dating question

Cells are using themselves up whether installed or not. Most have a design life expressed in "percent hours." The actual time at elevated PO2, unless you dive a lot, doesn't accelerate things that much. A year at 0.21 is about 184,000 percent hours. 100 hours at a 1.2 PO2 is only 12,000...

I have the previous version and love it. The Solo looks even better.

Discuss: gas analyzer before second Shearwater?

Spot on. O2 analyzer is non negotiable. TMX analyzer can come later. FO2 is a safety issue in a way that FHe is not. Plus, as pointed out, the math is easy if you're topping off. People mixed TMX long before there were easily acquired helium analyzers. I got by with a Palm O2 for years...

Do you lie about your helium content?

I think that is a case of people hearing what they want to hear. My understanding is that it is still very much debatable whether the the "helium penalty" is (1) a myth or (2) real, but masked by the conservatism inherent in our algorithms. People that leap to the conclusion that it is #1 are...

Request for information not covered in any course

Didn't mean to suggest anything about Reef. Assume they wouldn't do it casually. It's the technology that scares me. I'm just waiting for some dumbass to hook it up to their iPod.
